BY EMMANUEL JOHNSON, Special Correspondent, USA

Some classified information within the United States (US) security has revealed that in the wake of the Abuja Bomb blast which occurred during the October 1, 50 years Golden Jubilee Anniversary, which led to the sack of Colonel Kayode Are as National Security Adviser, NSA, by Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan and his immediate replacement by General Andrew Aziza, the International Community now believe the security situation in Nigeria will come under strict control due to wealth of military intelligence of Azazi, a respected military intelligence officer. As such, foreign security officers are willing to quickly inform Nigeria of any

suspicious moves by defiant militant groups to cause violence, since the administration of Jonathan have the full backing of the government of the US.

Foreign intelligence on Alqaeda operations & 2011 elections
After the bomb blast, Nigeria Standard gathered there had been flurry of foreign security intelligence reports, mainly from the US, CIA, Federal Bureau of Intelligence, (FBI) and Israeli’s MOSSAD on plans by Alqaeda to gain entry into Nigeria before the 2011 general elections, with the aim of creating a state of chaos, anarchy and vulnerability in Aso Rock Villa.
Security sources in the office of NSA who preferred anonymity due to the secrecy of the foreign intelligence reports told Nigeria Standard that “The NSA received foreign intelligence reports precisely 96 hours after the Abuja bomb blast at 03:30 hours that Alqaeda have concluded plans to import rocket launchers, grenades, bomb, explosions and other weapons into Nigeria as a strong base in West Africa ahead of the 2011 Elections. Their aim is to destabilize the polity through violence and bomb explosions in a bid to make Nigeria ungovernable for President Jonathan. They are in constant touch with the Movement of the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) to achieve this aim.”

Not to be taken unawares, General Aziza allegedly met with President Jonathan same night at the Presidential Villa and tendered similar foreign intelligence reports from CIA, FBI and MOSSAD, which confirmed that Nigeria is under threat of Alqaeda and MEND.

Security operatives briefed on Alqaeda threat
A day after, leadership of State Security Service, (SSS), Nigeria ’s Intelligence Agency, (NIA), Nigerian Army, (NA), Nigerian Police Force, (NPF) and Nigerian Customs Service, (NCS) were allegedly summoned to the Banquet Hall of Aso Rock Villa, where they were briefed on the Alqaeda threat.

How Alqaeda arms were intercepted by crack detectives
Nigeria Standard further gathered that instructions were handed down to them to beef up water-tight security and stepped up surveillance in their various posts. That was how arms and ammunition brought in by Alqaeda were intercepted at the Lagos Port from India by crack detectives of NCS. The thirteen containers laden with bombs, rocket launchers and other weapons were shipped into Nigeria aboard a vessel MV CMA-CGM Everest, which sailed from Indian’s busiest port of Nhava Sheva (Jawalrah Nehru) on July 15, 2010 and berthed at the Lagos port five days earlier.

How C-Tracker & surveillance aided NCS
Through the C-Tracker equipment and surveillance by men of the NCS, Nigeria Standard learnt the ammunitions were discovered. Immediately after, Comptroller of Customs, Apapa Wharf port briefed Dikko Abdullahi, Comptroller General of Customs, who informed men of the SSS. Detailed investigation and analysis of the explosives and ammunition by SSS led to the arrests of two persons of Niger-Delta extraction, presumably militants who had come to claim the cargo at the port.

Though details of the arrest made were not immediately made public by SSS, but Nigeria Standard gathered from a source within the SSS that the suspects were made to undergo strenuous interrogation to know who sponsored them and their aim of the illegal arm’s importation.

SSS confirmed arrest in news conference
In a news conference, Marylyn Ogar, the SSS Assistant Director of Public Relations confirmed the arrest, same way General Aziza assured Nigerians that all those involved in the importation of the arms and ammunition would be arrested.

NSA inspected seized arms
Aziza who inspected the seized arms and ammunition at the Lagos Port said “the very good procedure,” in place made the arms’ interception possible. When Aziza was asked if the importation of the weapons had bearing with the 2011 Elections, he replied that “I don’t know; I don’t want to jump into conclusions, until we get more information.”

Investigations by Nigeria Standard from sources within Nigeria’s security circle revealed that all the security chiefs were elated by the feat achieved by intelligence sharing that would have brought crisis and violence to Nigeria.

British M15 warns of Alqaeda threat
Meanwhile, the British M15, secret service arm of the British Government have through their Home Office informed the British Embassy of the threat of Alqaeda to Nigeria and the need for Britons to steer clear of all Niger Delta areas. But, there are fears in some circles that some of the seized ammunitions have found their ways into the hands of MEND, whereby they are presently threatening violence.

As at the time of going to the press, security has been further increased around all Federal Government owned institutions, to forestall any threat.
