HE’S\nSUPPOSED TO UPHOLD THE LAW. Shamefully, he has contradicted the law\nto which he ought to stand for. A Nigerian police officer in Awka,\nAnambra state, attached to a commercial bank as a security guard has\nbeen arrested by the police authorities for pointing a loaded gun on\na woman’s head and raping her by the ATM machine. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\npolice officer was picked up for allegedly defiling a 35-year-old\nlady at an ATM booth at night in Awka, Anambra State. <\/strong>It\nwas <\/strong><\/em>gathered\nthat the police officer raped the lady in the premises of one of the\ncommercial banks in Awka, the state capital, when she went to do some\nfinancial transaction.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Information\nhas it that the suspect, who worked as a security guard at the bank,\nhad approached the lady and demanded for sex, but when he was turned\ndown, he allegedly employed force by fronting a gun.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nAn\neye witness, Monsuru Olajide who spoke with our correspondent said\nthat the victim rejected the police officer\u2019s advances until she\nwas threatened with a gun by the suspect. His words: \u201cThe policeman\nhad been disturbing the 35 year old woman, regularly asking for sex\neach time the woman was around to use her ATM card to withdraw funds\nin front of the bank. The victim rejected his proposal until the\npolice officer pointed gun at her head, threatening to shoot her.\nWhen I heard the woman crying, begging the officer to stop, spare her\nlife was when I knew she was been raped.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subsequently,\nthe day after the incidence, the lady stormed the bank with some\nofficers and arrested the suspect. Confirming the incident, the\nCommissioner of Police (CP) in the state, Rabiu Ladodo, said the\nsuspect has been arrested and detained.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According\nto him, police officers were dispatched to the place of the crime\nimmediately a complaint was lodged in for the alleged rape of the\nlady, adding that the suspect was quickly arrested and placed under\ndetention.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

While\nsaying that preliminary investigation was yet to establish any case\nof rape, Ladodo said the case has been transferred to the state\u2019s\nCriminal and Investigation Department for proper handling.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nCP assured that investigations regarding the rape incident would be\nmade public even as he said the suspect will face necessary\npunishment if found guilty.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
