PETER\nGENGER, a Nigerian student has emerged co-winner of the 2019 Nahlah\nAyed Prize for Student Leadership and Global Citizenship. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Genger,\na Ph.D candidate in Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS) holds extensive\nexperience in facilitating dialogue and peace education, with a\nMaster&#8217;s degree education in inter-religious dialogue from Boston\nCollege and a Master\u2019s from the joint M.A. program in PACS, he\ncontinues to promote peaceful, responsible citizenship through his\nresearch. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking\non the development, an elated Genger said that he never believed his\nlittle pieces of leadership service would gain a rewarding\nrecognition. His words: \u201cI\nnever thought that my little pieces of leadership service would gain\na rewarding recognition as noble as the Nahlah Ayed Prize for Student\nLeadership and Global Citizenship. I sincerely appreciate the award.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis\naward has made me to realize that there is no service that is too\nlittle or too much to give. The most important thing is for one to\nkeep serving with sincere concern for humanity. After all, there is\njoy in true leadership and service.  \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Genger\u2019s\ninclination for study and practice is on the resort and entrenchment\nof African Indigenous peacemaking opportunities to address conflicts\nand development challenges in African communities, in resonance with\nthe African Union\u2019s declaration for African solutions for Africa\u2019s\nproblems. He has put his ideas forward in significant publications\nand presentations like how corruption in Nigeria can be defeated with\nIndigenous wisdom \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In\nNigeria, he worked on community-building and conflict resolution\ninitiatives within local communities among other peacemaking\nactivities. He has coordinated inter-faith dialogue and peacemaking\nworkshops for various groups in Winnipeg, including children\u2019s\ncamps, youth groups and community gatherings. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On\ncampus, Genger demonstrated his leadership skills across many\ninitiatives, and is currently the University of Manitoba Graduate\nStudents\u2019 Association\u2019s volunteer representative on the faculty\nof arts research committee. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ashley\nHayward, a student of the same college, also was awarded with the\nprestigious prize. Commending the duo for their outstanding feat, the\nDirector, University of Manitoba International Centre, Susie Taylor,\nsaid that both Peter and Ashley have made remarkable contributions to\nboth local and global communities. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBoth\nPeter and Ashley have made remarkable contributions to both local and\nglobal communities, and we are honoured to recognize them for their\ncommitment, leadership and passion. They truly exemplify the spirit\nof the Nahlah Ayed Prize,\u2019\u2019 she added. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every\nyear, the University of Manitoba students who demonstrate exceptional\ncommitment and leadership skills and whose actions help to bridge the\nlocal and the global are awarded the Nahlah Ayed Prize for Student\nLeadership and Global Citizenship.
