GOING\nBY THE VIOLENCE THAT ACCOPANIED THE VIOLENT DEMOSTRATION ORCHESTRATED\n IN THE NAME OF ISLAMIC MOVEMENT OF NIGERIA, IMN, otherwise known as\n‘Shiites’, the United States has advised its citizens in Nigeria to\navoid large crowds and demonstration by the sect to stay safe. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nThis\nwas contained in a statement issued on Friday, where it alerted its\ncitizens to \u201cexpected\u201d protest by members of the sect across the\ncountry, including Lagos and Abuja. It therefore urged its citizens\nin Nigeria to review their personal security plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nThe\nstatement read: \u201cThe U.S. Mission in Nigeria advises U.S. citizens\nthat large demonstrations by protesters affiliated with the Islamic\nMovement of Nigeria are expected in the coming days throughout the\ncountry, including Abuja and Lagos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cProtests\nby this group in the Nigerian capital on July 9 became violent,\nincluding exchanges of gunfire between protestors and Nigerian\nPolice, resulting in a couple of deaths. The U.S. Mission advises its\ncitizens to avoid these demonstrations and remain in safe areas\nduring these periods.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nThe\nUS added that it citizens should avoid demonstrations and large\ncrowds, be aware of their surroundings, monitor local media for\nupdates and carry proper identification, including a U.S. passport\nwith a current Nigerian visa. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
