MAJORITY\nOF NIGERIANS WERE SURPRISED TO HEAR OF HOW MARCO RAMIREZ, AN AMERICAN\nON TOURIST’S VISA TO AFRICA’S MOST POPULOUS NATION COINED THREE\nNIGERIANS TO THE TUNE OF $565,000 (about N203.4m) on the pretext of\nhelping them secure the United States Green Card. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nAmerican, Ramirez was re-arraigned before the Lagos State Special\nOffences Court in Ikeja for allegedly defrauding some Nigerians of\ntheir hard-earned money under the guise of helping them secure the\nUnited States Green Card. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\nwas arraigned alongside his companies, USA Now LLC, Eagle Ford\nInstalodge Group LP and USA Now Capital Group by the Economic and\nFinancial Crimes Commission on amended 12 counts bordering on\nconspiracy and obtaining under false pretences.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Going\n by EFCC, Ramirez and his companies, sometime in February 2013 and\nAugust 2013 in Lagos, defrauded Ambassador Godson Echejue, Abubakar\nSodiq and Olukayode Sodimu of the said sum. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\ndefendant and his companies had been arraigned on June 22, 2017,\nbefore Justice Josephine Oyefeso on 16 counts bordering on the same\noffences and pleaded not guilty to the charges.Following\nhis not guilty plea, Justice Oyefeso admitted him to bail in the sum\nof $25,000. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile,\nmidway into the trial, the case file was transferred and he was\nsubsequently re-arraigned before Justice Mojisola Dada. After\ntaking his plea, Ramirez\u2019s counsel, Ademola Adefolaju, urged the\ncourt to allow his client to continue with the bail terms set by the\nprevious judge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When\nasked by Justice Dada if the defendant had complied with the bail\nterms, Adefolaju confirmed that his client had fully complied and had\nbeen going to the EFCC\u2019s office as directed by the court.Granting\nthe request, Justice Dada said, \u201cHaving not breached the bail terms\ngranted by my brother judge, the defendant is hereby allowed to\ncontinue with the terms.\u201d \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
