NIGERIAN\nKING OF REGGAE, AND SING-ALIKE OF BOB NESTA MARLEY, MAJEKODUNMI\nFASHEKI, famously known in global music circle as ‘Majek Fashek’\nneeds urgent financial assistance and divine prayers in a London\nhospital to stay alive as detailed information reaching Najia\nStandard Newspaper on his status of health revealed that the once\nlively music legend is presently suffering from <\/strong>Undifferentiated\nschizophrenia- a serious medical situation whereby the patient may\nnot talk or express themselves much, as they can be confused and\nparanoid,\u201d according to <\/strong>psychiatrist\nMinnie Bowers-Smith, MD. He’s been surrounded by a team of trained\nnurses and psychiatrists around the clock. <\/strong>

Confirming\nthis alleged dire health situation, Majek’s manager, <\/strong>Uzoma\nDay Omenka stated that the story earlier reported by Vanguard on\nSaturday was true. He said the legendary musician is gravelly ill and\nreceiving treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in London, England.<\/strong>

INVESTIGATION<\/em>\nby NAIJA STANDARD NEWSPAPER<\/em>\nas confirmed by Omenka reveals,\nMajek became gravelly ill last month and was rushed to London on\nAugust 24, 2019 after a brief admission at a Lagos hospital. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Omenka<\/strong>\nsaid a notable Nigerian known for his philanthropic gestures has\nundertaken to take care of his medical bill but does not wish to have\nhis name revealed. He mentioned Captain Hosa, Hon. E.J. It\ncan be a long road to diagnosis, however. Patients \u2014 and families \u2014\nare often in denial. After all, it\u2019s a tough diagnosis to accept.\nPsychiatrists\nmay not see all the person\u2019s symptoms right away. And substance\nabuse may be a factor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\ndon\u2019t label it schizophrenia right away; the diagnosis can follow a\nperson throughout life once it\u2019s in their chart,\u201d says Dr.\nBowers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Undifferentiated\nschizophrenia: <\/strong>The\nperson has various vague symptoms. \u201cThey may not talk or express\nthemselves much. They can be confused and paranoid,\u201d says Dr.\nBowers. The person may not bother to change clothes or take a shower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schizoaffective disorder: <\/strong>The person has delusional thinking and other symptoms of schizophrenia. \u201cBut they also present with one or more symptoms of a mood disorder: depression, mania and\/or hypomania,\u201d says Dr. Bowers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happens\nat the hospital?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

About one-third\nof people with schizophrenia don\u2019t believe anything is wrong with\nthem. Many more don\u2019t seek help on their own, for cultural reasons\nor because they lack resources. So problems often come to light only\nwhen their erratic behavior or other troubles trigger a crisis.\n\u201cPatients are often brought to the hospital by family, teachers or\nthe police,\u201d says Dr. Bowers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To decide whether\nto admit someone, psychiatrists consider whether patients pose a risk\nto themselves or others; whether they can take care of themselves;\nand whether they could benefit from hospital treatment<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If\nthe patient is admitted, the psychiatrist talks to them and evaluates\ntheir behavior, considers whether any symptoms were triggered by\nalcohol or drugs, reviews any records from prior admissions, and\ntalks to the family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cInitially,\nwe may only see that the patient is losing track of reality. We may\nneed more time to see all the symptoms of schizophrenia. These\nsymptoms include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fixed, false\nbeliefs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hearing voices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seeing visions or\nshadows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
