HE IS A LAGOS BOY WHO PASSIONATELY BELIEVE IN\nTHE POWER OF DESTINY. Needless to say, ISRAEL ADESANYA is a child of\ndestiny. He is indeed. He takes on almost every opponents with a\ndetermination for victory and knock-out. By the end of the last\ncount, this 30 year old Nigerian always emerge a winner, with loss in\na match. Only a few days ago, he humiliated Robert Whittaker,  his\nopponent in Melbourne to win the coveted UFC World Middleweight\nChampion. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"UFC 243: Israel Adesanya On Jon Jones, Floyd Mayweather, Robert Whittaker And More\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IbvE8J4WQU8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>This\nnew<\/strong>\nUFC middleweight champion was just 10 when his family\nbrought him from Nigeria to\nan all-white school in New Zealand. The\nonly black kid in his class, he was relentlessly bullied until he\nlearned to fight and stand up for himself. Since then the lean 6ft\n4in 30-year-old fighter has had a chip on his shoulder, bragging and\nsmack talking to all who would listen. To show him as a man of\nhonesty who keeps his promises, last Sunday he backed up his talk by\ncrushing Robert Whittaker in two rounds before a record crowd of\n57,000 in Melbourne to become world champion. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Israel Adesanya looks back at UFC 243, calls Jon Jones jealous | Ariel Helwani\u2019s MMA Show\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UdkqHEp5YFg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Adesanya\nsaid: &#8221;I am real petty you know that. I remember everything like an\nelephant. I was in the nosebleeds and now I made his nose bleed,&#8217; he\ngloated in victory. Adesanya&#8217;s journey from the nosebleeds to world\nchamp started when his well-off parents decided to move out of Lagos\nto give their children a better education. His father Femi, an\naccountant, and Taiwo, a nurse, were tossing up between the U.S. and\nNew Zealand and ruled out America after the September 11 attacks. &#8216;I\nwent to Rotorua Boys&#8217; High School and there&#8217;s a lot of testosterone.\nIt was ups and downs, smiles and frowns. It\nwas weird being the only black kid around. I had to defend myself a\nlot. &#8216;I&#8217;m\ncheeky, I&#8217;m annoying so I&#8217;d always get myself into trouble and\neventually I had to learn how to defend myself. That&#8217;s when my search\nfor fighting came through.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"THE FIGHTER\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hHWEo1l-l5g?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\nIn\nhis revelation, he Adesanya confessed that he struggled to fit in and\nnever felt accepted in his adopted country because of his race and\nbeing an African immigrant. &#8216;Literally there was a point through high\nschool where I used to try and sound like [my classmates], I used try\nand be like them and talk like them,&#8217; he said last year. Just so I\ncan fit in. I tried so many times to fit in but I could never ever\nfit in. I was always like, an outcast. At the end of the day, look at\nmy skin. I&#8217;m all black and ironically that&#8217;s the country&#8217;s national\nrugby team&#8217;s name. I was never able to fit in properly and be\naccepted when I was a kid,&#8217; he said. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nSchool\nwas also the origin of Adesanya&#8217;s notorious swaggering\nself-confidence that made him such a loudmouth in and out of the\nring. He started giving himself motivation pep talks, and first to\nget through the day and then to push himself to become a champion\nfighter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n \u201cI\nthink I was crying in the mirror one day after being picked on. I was\nupset and I just kind of talked to myself and then eventually I just\nstarted doing it. I&#8217;ve been doing it for years now. I don&#8217;t like\neating my own words and I like rubbing it in people&#8217;s faces, \u201c he\nreportedly said. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"5 Unforgettable Israel Adesanya Matrix Moments in UFC! He said: \u201cI think it&#8217;s a trait\nof people from my place. We don&#8217;t shy from flaunting our abilities,\neven if we fall flat on our face, we still put it out there. It ain&#8217;t\nbragging if you can back it up, and I&#8217;ve been backing it up for years\nnow, so I can say what I want and do what I want.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nAdesanya\nhad trained briefly in taekwondo in Nigeria but his mother pulled him\nout of class when he broke his hand. Almost a decade later he started\nto learn kickboxing after being inspired by the Muay Thai film\nOng-Bak. Growing\nup he also excelled at dancing, which is always a feature of his\nentrance to the ring, and believes he could have been just as good if\nhe chose that path professionally. There were plenty of young black\nmen like me dancing, but in UFC there was a market for me.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nIn\n2009 he went against his trainer&#8217;s advice and competed in an amateur\nMMA fight which he lost but didn&#8217;t embarrass himself. Spurred on by\nhis loss, Adesanya moved to Auckland aged 21 and began training under\nhis current coach Eugene Bareman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"How Israel Adesanya went from UFC debut to title shot in a year\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UQ3nil7p2OU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\nBareman\nwas hesitant at first as he was part of Adesanya&#8217;s support team in\n2009 and found the young fighter too stubborn to deal with. Adesanya\nstarted fighting professional kickboxing bouts in 2011, a career\nwhich he continued at the same time as MMA until 2017, amassing a\n75-5 record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nHe\ntoiled mostly in obscurity for most of his MMA career, beginning in\n2012, and only got his first UFC opportunity last July after already\nwinning 11 straight bouts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nFour\nfighters knocked back the chance to face him in his first UFC bout\nuntil Australian brawler Rob Wilkinson took him on. Adesanya\ndismantled him in just the second round and was victorious in another\nfive fights before he won the right to challenge Whittaker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nWhittaker\nstarted the match well by breaching Adesanya&#8217;s defences a few times\nin the first round as the fighters sized each other up. The suddenly\nAdesanya landed a big uppercut on Whittaker just before the first\nround bell that knocked the Sydneysider to the canvas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nWhittaker\nnever completely recovered from the brutal knockdown and couldn&#8217;t\nsustain his all-out attack to start the second round. &#8216;The Reaper&#8217;\nlanded a solid hit to Adesanya&#8217;s face in the second round before his\nopponent walloped him on the chin and Whittaker suddenly went down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Israel Adesanya Short Film - The Year That Was\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xj6yQzgFPBg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\nAdesanya\nran over and starting striking Whittaker&#8217;s head before referees ended\nthe match and declared him the new champion of their middleweight\ndivision. The victor celebrated by crouching down and miming mowing\ndown the octagon with two machine pistols before dramatically\nholstering them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\nAdesanya\ndidn&#8217;t take long to start bragging, and almost immediately challenged\nPaulo Costa, who was in the audience, to be his next opponent. \u201cYou\nknow who&#8217;s next. I got this overly inflated balloon animal. This\nheavy-a*** Ricky Martin wannabe. Borrhaccina,&#8217; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n&#8216;You\nbetter not step in here &#8217;cause this is my f**king cage tonight. It&#8217;s\nmy octagon. So yeah, they&#8217;ll see that and\nthink &#8216;That&#8217;s the guy!
