JOHNSON\nOLATUNJI OGUNYEMI is a-50 year old Nigerian yahoo-yahoo man who\narrived United States on January 31, 2015,\nauthorized to remain till July 30, 2015 by Custom and Border\nProtection (CBP), but refused to leave the United States due to the\ninherent crimes he had been secretly perpetrating until he was\ncaught.  He confessed he is guilty of forgery, false use of passport,\nfraud, misuse of visa &amp; money laundering&#8217;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n<strong>This\nwas conformed by the United States Department of Justice where it was\nstated that  U.S. District Judge Catherine C.\nBlake recently sentenced Johnson Olatunji Ogunyemi, age 50, a\nNigerian national residing in Owings Mills, Maryland, to 30 months in\nfederal prison, after Ogunyemi pleaded guilty to forgery and false\nuse of a passport, fraud and misuse of a visa, and money laundering.\nJudge Blake also ordered Ogunyemi to forfeit $105,561. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n<strong>The\nguilty plea and sentence were announced by United States Attorney for\nthe District of Maryland Robert K. Hur and Special Agent in Charge\nEdwin Guard of the U.S. Department of State\u2019s Diplomatic Security\nService (DSS) Washington Field Office.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n<strong>Going\nby his plea agreement, Ogunyemi, a Nigerian national who arrived in\nthe United States on January 31, 2015 was authorized to remain until\nJuly 30, 2015 by Custom and Border Control (CBP), but did not leave\nthe U.S. On August 16, 2017, the New Carrollton Police Department\n(\u201cNCPD\u201d) arrested Ogunyemi at a bank in New Carrollton, Maryland,\nafter Ogunyemi presented a fraudulent Nigerian passport and visa in\nthe  name of Benjamin Smith to the teller to conduct a financial\ntransaction. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n<strong>During\nthe arrest, NCPD took possession of three Nigerian passports with\nU.S. visas, all with Ogunyemi\u2019s photo, but in the names of Benjamin\nSmith, Benjamin Johnson, and John Wale, as well as a Nigerian\ndriver\u2019s license in the name of Benjamin Smith and an Ohio driver\u2019s\nlicense in the name of David Durston recovered from Ogunyemi or from\nthe vehicle that he drove to the bank.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n<strong>As\ndetailed in his plea agreement, on November 10, 2017, Diplomatic\nSecurity Service (\u201cDSS\u201d) agents arrested Ogunyemi at his\nresidence in Owings Mills.  When DSS arrived at the residence to\nexecute the arrest warrant, Ogunyemi absconded through a third-floor\nbalcony and attempted to flee. DSS also executed a search warrant on\nOgunyemi\u2019s vehicle and found an additional Nigerian passport and\nNigerian Driver\u2019s License containing Ogunyemi\u2019s photo in the name\nof Ola Badru, as well as mail addressed to Ogunyemi\u2019s other known\naliases. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n<strong>The\nDepartment of Homeland Security Forensic Laboratory determined that\nall of the identity documents recovered from Ogunyemi or his vehicles\nwere counterfeit. Ogunyemi admitted that he assumed at least five\nidentities in the United States, including four for which he\npossessed altered Nigerian passports, each containing a forged United\nStates visa.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n<strong>Ogunyemi\nfurther admitted that he participated in a fraud scheme. He opened\nbank accounts in the names of his various aliases, using the false\npassports and visas, as well as the name of a purported business.\nOgunyemi received wire transfers, check and cash deposits of hundreds\nof thousands of dollars into the bank accounts that he exercised\ncontrol over. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n<strong>Ogunyemi\nknew that the funds that he received and deposited into his accounts\nwere the proceeds of unlawful activity, including scams against\nvulnerable individuals and the defrauding of businesses by email\nhacking and\/or by counterfeit checks. Using his various aliases, he\nused the   proceeds received and deposited into his accounts to\nconduct financial transactions in an effort to conceal the unlawful\nsource of the funds.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n<strong>The\namount of money laundered by Ogunyemi as part of the conspiracy was\nat least $307,300.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n<strong>United\nStates Attorney Robert K. Hur commended DSS for their work in the\ninvestigation and thanked the New Carrollton Police Department for\nits assistance. Mr. Hur thanked Assistant U.S. Attorneys Joan C.\nMathias and Tamera L.
