THE Senate in Nigeria has been warned and ordered to stay away from issuing any warrant of arrest against Ibrahim Lamorde, former Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) pending the hearing, determination of the Motion on Notice for Interlocutory Injunction.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Festus Keyamo, lawyer to the Applicant, Lamorde sent us a press statement in a Suit No. FHC\/ABJ\/CS\/934\/2015 at the Federal High Court Abuja, Justice Gabriel Kolawole specifically instructed the The Senate, The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions as Respondents to abide by the ruling of the court. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For this reason, Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Federal High Court, Abuja granted an Order of Interim Injunction restraining the Senate and its Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions from issuing any Warrant of Arrest against the former Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Lamorde pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice for Interlocutory Injunction. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This was sequel to the fact that despite the pendency of Lamorde\u2019s suit in court challenging the powers of the Senate to issue a Warrant of Arrest when a proper Summons to appear had not been issued against him, the Senate still went ahead to pass a Resolution to issue a Warrant of Arrest against Lamorde.
