These allegation is coming from his own closest constituency as Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND) has officially issued a press statement alleging that GEJ is the Grand Patron of Niger Delta Avengers (NDA). Even though this allegation has been disclaimed and rebuffed by Ikechukwu Eze, Media aide to GEJ as a fabrication from the pit of hell orchestrated purposely to put the life of Jonathan in the harm&#8217;s way, the embattled former president, now a diplomat representing African Union in various electioneering roles and positive impact on humanity has cried out to members of international community, claiming his life is in danger, as Niger Delta militants&#8217; assassins are after him. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Ikechukwu statement states that a facile contrivance so badly concocted that any discerning mind would easily see through its disingenuous and duplicitous nature \u201cis not in our place to speak for all those named in the obvious fabrication, we are only intervening to the extent that its hidden intent poses a violent threat to the life of former President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR, a committed patriot who the Almighty God has given the grace and good health to rededicate his life to the service of humanity, after serving his dear nation as President to the best of his abilities.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201c <span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>We are however seized by the feeling of d\u00e9j\u00e0 vu occasioned by the resurrection of one dim character masquerading as \u2018Cynthia White\u2019, who had in the past served as the spokesperson for a notorious group that had all along shown its hand to be going after the life of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.<br \/>\nNigerians could recall that in 2007 when Jonathan emerged as the running mate to the late President Umar\u2019 Yar\u2019Adua in the People\u2019s Democratic Party during that year\u2019s presidential election, this very<br \/>\ngroup invaded Yenogoa with hundreds of militants in an effort to assassinate him. Jonathan was only saved then by the spirited efforts of the combined forces of determined security men, who gallantly<br \/>\nrepelled the attack.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b><br \/>\nSpeaking on behalf of GEJ, Ikechukwu explained: \u201cLet us also not forget that members of this same group later invaded and bombed Jonathan\u2019s compound in Otuoke, Bayelsa State, on a night he was scheduled to attend to an important matter in his country home. He was only saved by the grace of God, who in His infinite mercy created intervening factors that prevented Jonathan from sleeping in his country home that night.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b><br \/>\n\u201cDo we need to remind anybody that the so called Cynthia White is the self declared spokesperson of the Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), a violent and murderous underground group led by one Henry Okah, which has not hidden its intention to destroy the former President? The unfortunate event of 1st October 2010 in Abuja at the Eagle Square during the Independence Day celebrations for that year, being presided over by the former President, bears out this conviction. It would be recalled that after an attempt to bomb the venue, with the mind of assassinating Jonathan and possibly other high profile local and international dignitaries in attendance, was thwarted by tight<br \/>\nsecurity deployment, the terrorists exploded their bombs in other parts of Abuja, resulting in the death of many innocent Nigerians. It is no secret that following that incident, Okah, the leader of MEND<br \/>\nwas arrested, tried, convicted and jailed in South Africa over terrorism charges by the security authorities of that country. He remains in a South African prison till date while his associates in<br \/>\nNigeria are still being held in Kuje prison, Abuja. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>We, therefore, have no doubt in our mind that MEND, as a group contracted to go after Jonathan with the mind of assassinating him, is<br \/>\nyet to abandon this criminal and ignominious craving. It is in this light that we view the purported statement issued by \u2018Cynthia White\u2019 as not only a sadistic continuation of this sick desire, but also a<br \/>\nfutile attempt to instigate the Federal Government to needlessly go after the former President. Those who have been following the unsavoury developments in some parts of the country since the last general elections, especially the ones that held in the South South states, would have noticed that the<br \/>\nnefarious MEND, their pay masters and other unscrupulous elements in the region, have been striving fruitlessly to exploit the ensuing confusion, by surreptitiously working for the fulfillment of its<br \/>\nyet-to-be declared political agenda. It is our considered view that the statement in question is an off-shoot of that ignoble plan; this time plotting to rubbish and torpedo the ongoing peace efforts in the<br \/>\nregion.<br \/>\n<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>While we believe that God Almighty would continue to protect the former President against the evil machinations of these undesirable elements, we wish to also point out that Jonathan is prepared to do Continuation&#8230; anything within the limit of our laws to ensure that he enjoys a well-deserved peaceful post-Presidential life without any hindrance. We are not under any illusion that more accusations and allegations of this nature would not be hurled Jonathan\u2019s way in the future, especially as his enemies appear to have perfected the act of throwing mud each time his profile gains added impetus and acclaim. But we are very positive that he can never be fazed by such negative energy. Like<br \/>\nthe eagle, Dr. Ebele Goodluck Jonathan will continue to soar over his traducers.\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i><b>PRESS RELEASE<br \/>\nOur attention has been drawn to a malicious claim by a shadowy group which calls itself the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA) to the effect that many notable Ijaw and other Niger Delta leaders and<br \/>\nelders, especially those perceived not to be too close to the powers that be, are the alleged sponsors of the current crises in the Niger Delta.<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><i><b><br \/>\nFor the avoidance of doubt, we are fully convinced that such an idiotic claim is too cheap a narrative, a facile contrivance so badly concocted that any discerning mind would easily see through its<br \/>\ndisingenuous and duplicitous nature. Like the eagle, Dr. Ebele Goodluck Jonathan will continue to soar over his traducers.<br \/>\n&#8211;<br \/>\nSigned<br \/>\nIkechukwu Eze<br \/>\nMedia aide to Goodluck Jonathan<\/b><\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>&#8216;Jonathan plots Buhari&#8217;s Govt Downfall&#8217;-MEND<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Meanwhile, MEND corroborated the view and position of Reformed Niger Delta Avengers (RNDA) that GEJ is deliberately sponsoring NDA to truncate President Muhammadu Buhari&#8217;s administration. <\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta says it has been vindicated by the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers\u2019 allegation that former President Goodluck Jonathan is a grand patron of new militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>MEND claimed in a statement on Tuesday alleged that Jonathan was sponsoring the NDA to destabilize the government of his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>The statement signed by one Jomo Gbomo was MEND\u2019s response to Jonathan\u2019s denial of the allegation by the RNDA, linking the ex-President with the new militant group.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>MEND said it was highly infuriated by Jonathan\u2019s rebuttal of the RNDA earlier claim, particularly his declaration that Henry Okah was after his life rather than clear the air on the allegation.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>The statement said, \u201cMEND cannot hold brief for the RNDA, which pointedly accused Jonathan of complicity in fueling the ongoing Niger Delta crisis and patronising the NDA, apparently for political reasons.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>We are, however, quick to point out the fact that the RNDA has merely vindicated MEND\u2019s belief and conviction that the former President and his cronies, who lost the 2015 presidential election, were using the illegal and treasonable NDA platform to destabilise President Buhari\u2019s government.\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>This group accused Jonathan of wasting the opportunity of the South-South to rule the country, accusing him of failing to develop the region when he was in the saddle as President.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>The statement added, \u201cIndeed, the problem in the Niger Delta today has nothing to do with the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Far from it! The problem is simply the failure of Mr. Jonathan to address the root issues confronting the region when he was at the helms of affairs.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201d<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Even though he was from the impoverished region and had, by his own admission in numerous electioneering campaigns, experienced the utter poverty and abject neglect of the region foisted by successive Nigerian governments and the international oil companies since the discovery of oil in 1958 at Oloibiri (a few metres away from his native Otuoke) in Bayelsa State, Mr. Jonathan disappointingly frittered away the opportunity to rescue his people when the Nigerian Presidency fortuitously landed on his laps, virtually on a platter of gold.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>For six whole years, Mr. Jonathan was busy drinking, making merry and generally chasing shadows at the State House. Such a fellow deserves to be ostracised from the assembly of reasonable men; because the Nigerian Presidency might never come back to the Niger Delta region as cheap as it came to Mr. Jonathan; perhaps, in the next 100 years.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Lest we forget, MEND was at the forefront of the armed struggle back in 2006\/2007 which forced the then Government of President Olusegun Obasanjo to consider the option of drafting an Ijaw into the mainstream of Nigerian politics. That was how the perpetually timid and na\u00efve Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan became Vice-President and later, President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. When he assumed the reins as President, he did the unthinkable; he tracked down perceived MEND leaders and promptly got them imprisoned on a trumped-up charge of attempt to assassinate him.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Up until today, Mr. Jonathan is still suffering from an assassination paranoia complex.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>The group added that a substantial portion of Jonathan\u2019s statement, \u201cunfortunately, dwelt on judicial matters which are pending in various courts in Nigeria and South Africa.\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta says it has been vindicated by the Reformed Niger Delta Avengers\u2019 allegation that former President Goodluck Jonathan is a grand patron of new militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>MEND claimed in a statement on Tuesday that Jonathan was sponsoring the NDA to destabilise the government of his successor, President Muhammadu Buhari.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>The statement signed by one Jomo Gbomo was MEND\u2019s response to Jonathan\u2019s denial of the allegation by the RNDA, linking the ex-President with the new militant group.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>MEND said it was highly infuriated by Jonathan\u2019s rebuttal of the RNDA earlier claim, particularly his declaration that Henry Okah was after his life rather than clear the air on the allegation.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>The statement said, \u201cMEND cannot hold brief for the RNDA, which pointedly accused Mr. Jonathan of complicity in fueling the ongoing Niger Delta crisis and patronising the NDA, apparently for political reasons.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>We are, however, quick to point out the fact that the RNDA has merely vindicated MEND\u2019s belief and conviction that the former President and his cronies, who lost the 2015 presidential election, were using the illegal and treasonable NDA platform to destabilise President Buhari\u2019s government.\u201d<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>The group accused Jonathan of wasting the opportunity of the South-South to rule the country, accusing him of failing to develop the region when he was in the saddle as President.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>The statement added, \u201cIndeed, the problem in the Niger Delta today has nothing to do with the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. Far from it! The problem is simply the failure of Mr. Jonathan to address the root issues confronting the region when he was at the helms of affairs.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201d<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Even though he was from the impoverished region and had, by his own admission in numerous electioneering campaigns, experienced the utter poverty and abject neglect of the region foisted by successive Nigerian governments and the international oil companies since the discovery of oil in 1958 at Oloibiri (a few metres away from his native Otuoke) in Bayelsa State, Mr. Jonathan disappointingly frittered away the opportunity to rescue his people when the Nigerian Presidency fortuitously landed on his laps, virtually on a platter of gold.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>For six whole years, Jonathan was busy drinking, making merry and generally chasing shadows at the State House. Such a fellow deserves to be ostracised from the assembly of reasonable men; because the Nigerian Presidency might never come back to the Niger Delta region as cheap as it came to Mr. Jonathan; perhaps, in the next 100 years.<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><b>Lest we forget, MEND was at the forefront of the armed struggle back in 2006\/2007 which forced the then Government of President Olusegun Obasanjo to consider the option of drafting an Ijaw into the mainstream of Nigerian politics.
