FACTS HAVE EMERGED THAT NOT ALL THAT GLITTERS ARE GOLD. The United States Securities and Exchange Commission have officially charged Dozy Mmobuosi, the founder of Nigeria’s Tingo Group which claims to operate agriculture and fintech businesses in three continents with \u201cmassive fraud\u201d on Monday, last week.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


The SEC alleged that Nigeria-born Mmobuosi had engaged in a scheme since 2019 \u201cto inflate the financial performance metrics\u201d of three U.S.-based entities that form the Tingo Group. The SEC published a 72-page complaint filed at the U.S. district court for the Southern District of New York demanding a jury trial.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


Part of the SEC\u2019s statement read: \u201cTingo Group\u2019s fiscal year 2022 Form 10-K filed in March 2023 reported a cash and cash equivalent balance of $461.7 million in its subsidiary Tingo Mobile\u2019s Nigerian bank accounts. In reality, those same bank accounts allegedly had a combined balance of less than $50 as of the end of fiscal year 2022.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


The SEC also alleged that Tingo\u2019s customer base is fabricated, that Mmobuosi \u201cfraudulently obtained hundreds of millions,\u201d and has diverted money for spending on luxury cars and private jet travels.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


Further investigations by our reporters showed this Nigerian businessman earlier had only $50 in company’s bank account in Nigeria before fleecing U.S Govt of million of dollars. Law enforcement sources in the United States (who would not want their names in the press) said: “The embattled extravagant wealthy man is facing imminent Warrant of Arrest. The Federal Bureau of Investigations, F.B.I, other security agencies are to notify INTERPOL and help place the suspect on WANTED LIST, if he refuses to turn himself in”.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


The securities regulator suspended trading of Tingo\u2019s NASDAQ shares in November, citing \u201cquestions and concerns\u201d surrounding the company. But the fuse had been lit in June after Hindenburg Research, the New York-based short seller, branded Tingo \u201can obvious scam\u201d in a report. Tingo\u2019s response to that report was that \u201cits financial results are accurately reported within its financial statements and its SEC filings.\u201d A source close to this suspect said: “Dozy Mmobuosi is innocent of these allegations. We did receive our funds lawfully in the United States”.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


Tingo group, which is listed on the NASDAQ exchange, says it is profitable as a group. It came to prominence in February 2022 when Bloomberg reported that the company was looking to raise $500 million and was already valued at $6.3 billion. The group claims that it has a commodity export business in Dubai, an insurance brokerage with 130 offices in China, and 12 million Nigerian rural farmers as customers. Mmobuosi was also in contention to buy a British football club earlier this year.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n


A section from the SEC\u2019s complaint reads as follows: \u201cDefendants created fake bank statements, falsified general ledgers, and other forged and doctored documents and submitted them to their auditors and others to substantiate their fabricated financial statements.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
