WITHOUT mincing words, a Nigerian Civil Activist, #RevolutionNow convener, Omoyele Sowore, has taken the administration of former president Muhammadu Buhari and the incumbent government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the cleaners for various human rights violations and insisted that Nigeria needed a revolution 40 years ago.
In a recent interview he had with The Independent published on Sunday, Sowore was asked if his travails following his activism had changed his view on the need for a revolution in Nigeria.
He said, \u201cNo! I knew Nigeria needed a revolution some 40 years ago when a bunch of \u2018Kill and Go\u2019 invaded my village to kill, rape, destroy and torture family members and fellow villagers.\u201d
Regarding his view of revolution, the former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) said, \u201cI am tired of repeating this: I have been clear about the form, nature, character, and content of the revolution we seek. It is the same that has happened everywhere and changed their objective conditions. The government is not meant to approve of a revolution.\u201d
A Federal High Court in Abuja recently threw out a treasonable felony filed by the Nigerian government against him in 2019 for calling for a revolution. This followed a notice by the government that it would discontinue the case.<\/strong>
Reacting to it, Sowore said, \u201cI don\u2019t see how anyone congratulates anyone when a monumental injustice of this nature is done to one. I fought my way through this, and I think the Federal Government of Nigeria is the one that ought to be thanking its stars for this.\u201d
Speaking on his experiences in detention and courts following his persistent criticism of the bad governance, Sowore said, \u201cMy experiences were numerous and varied but is it better detailed in a book or a documovie? It is what people like me go through when they choose the path of conscious radical focus, an uncompromising stance when it comes to fighting for justice.\u201d
Calling for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Sowore said that \u201cit is not benevolence to unjustly detain freedom fighters\u201d.
\u201cThey must release Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally. I have always stated this and attended his so-called \u2018trial,\u2019\u201d he said.
He described former President Muhammadu Buhari\u2019s tenure and essence as \u201crepugnant to decency\u201d.<\/strong>
\u201cBuhari is an immoral and unconscionable person; he is a fascist, bigot, and incompetent ruler,\u201d he said, adding that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is also \u201crepugnant\u201d.
