But after a brief evaluation of the global blowback by the Cuban Elite Security in the presidential palace, the idea was discarded since such will be easily traceable to the handiwork of the United States authority. \u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>Initially, the eight members of Cuban Elite Security had rejected the CIA\u2019s proposition to carry out the betrayals\u2019 act, since if caught that would have been a treason, which may result in their summary military execution by firing squad. The success of the operation, which resulted in the transportation of Maduro to the United States to face drug trafficking charges reinforced the belief that internal collaboration was key.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Yet pressure from international sanctions, the ongoing economic collapse, and ferocious domestic opposition weakened this allegiance. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>In the run-up to the assault, eyewitnesses say whispers of dissent grew louder within the ranks. Crisis in the Venezuela\u2019s armed forces were further corroborated by leaks from Venezuelan exiles and regime insiders indicated growing disillusionment among middle and upper-level officers who feared being held accountable for corruption and human rights abuses if Maduro\u2019s regime collapsed. These officers reportedly began hedging their bets, refusing to fully back Maduro in the critical hours before the U.S. assault, WLRN reports.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong>For the records, the same thing happened in Panama in 1990 when the United States invaded the country to arrest General Manuel Noriega. He was extradited and imprisoned.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
