political career of a Nollywood actor turned politician, Desmond Elliot in his ambition to retain his seat and recontest for the 4<sup>th<\/sup> term representing Surulere Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly being that various bodies for good governance, a Coalition of Concerned Stakeholders in Surulere have converged and passed a vote of no confidence on his lackluster and dull performance, ahead of the 2027 election. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-15746\" src=\"https:\/\/nigeriastandardnewspaper.com\/a\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Desmond-Elliot-two-jpg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"818\" height=\"1021\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Ahead of the 2027 general elections, this good governance body, a few days ago openly cast a shadow of doubt on the aspiration of Elliot\u2019s bid for a fourth term as the lawmaker representing Surulere Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>The stakeholders, in a statement by its Spokesman, Olanrewaju Badmus, said Elliot\u2019s previous three terms were marred by dismal performance, weak policy innovation and failure to proactively address local needs.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Badmus said that community leaders, youth groups, small-business representatives and civil society organisations had collectively assessed Elliot\u2019s legislative record and found it wanting.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>The spokesperson for the group, speaking on behalf of the Surulere Accountability Forum, accused the lawmaker of delivering few constituency projects and having limited legislative impact.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>He also alleged that Elliot lacked the creativity and drive to tackle infrastructure decay, youth unemployment and inadequate primary healthcare.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u201cWe are not opposed said the group\u2019s position was not borne of malice or personal bias, but of a firm belief that no individual is bigger than the system.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u201cLeadership must remain accountable, renewable, and reflective of the evolving aspirations of the people.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" loading=\"lazy\" reactionary or tied to recent developments.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>He stressed the need for Surulere Constituency 1 to present individuals with fresh #000000;\"><strong>\u201cAs stakeholders, the forum affirms its commitment to upholding democratic values, promoting inclusive participation in leadership and ensuring that the voice of the people remains a priority.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u201cThe group further calls on well-meaning residents and supporters of democracy to stand firm in ensuring that Surulere is taken to greater heights.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>\u201cBy putting forward a candidate with fresh ideas and the ambition to take Surulere to greater heights,\u201d he added.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>It would be recalled that scores of residents of Surulere and other All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders recently embarked on a similar mass rally calling on party leaders to make Elliot the party\u2019s consensus candidate, citing his impactful
