A huge scandal is presently rocking the Nigeria Police Force Special Fraud Unit (SFU), Milverton, Lagos State allegedly involving an Investigation Police Officer (IPO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sylvester Azubuike, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Sa\u2019idu Murtala Usman, AC Legal PSFU and Commissioner of Police, CP Special Fraud Unit (SFU), CP Eloho Edwin Okpoziakpo, law enforcement officers whose hands are \u2018soiled\u2019 in the oil of a whooping sum of Thirty Two Million Naira (N32,000,000,00) in a criminal case that so far stretched for 15 years under the radar of their guide. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

And these officers are presently under direct scrutiny and thorough investigation being carried out from the office of the Inspector General of Police, a sterling security echelon who stands for honesty, always represents integrity.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Blowing the whistle on this national scam is the Deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Zango Ibrahim Baba, psc, in charge of the Department of Research & Planning at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

DIG Zango truly reflects the best of discipline, knowledgeable in the provisions, extant rules of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). Being a man who loves to fight against injustice at any level of cadre in the Force due to his belief that \u201ctruth is always constant as the star\u201d, he could literally not close his eyes and allow evil in the form of indiscipline, lawlessness and fraud thrive under any guise. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

As such, he realized that a 15-year-old criminal case under the care of those three officers mentioned above at the SFU, Milverton, Lagos State had \u2018developed wings and flown away\u2019 from the radar of the Federal High Court Lagos without the knowledge and consent of the complainant.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

No. AP.No\/R&P\/FHQ\/ABJ\/V.1\/82 addressed directly to an Investigation Police Officer (IPO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sylvester Azubuike says by virtue of your rank as an Investigation Police Officer (IPO), you are expected to be conversant with extant rules, regulation and code of conduct guiding the conduct of both police officers. Regrettably, you have fallen short of these noble expectations and have betrayed the confidence reposed on you by the Inspector General of Police.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYour reckless and irresponsible action has caused serious embarrassment to the office and the person of the Inspector General of Police and has therefore directed that you be queried for the following act of serious misconduct: Gross Misconduct which you have committed contrary to Public Rule 100301, 2021 as amended which you violated including the rule of and regulation governing the Nigeria Police Force when you, without proper advice and instruction withdrew a matter from court without the knowledge of the complainant.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Similarly, in a Police Force Signal Ref. No. AP. 86828\/R&P\/FHQ\/ABJ\/V.1\/83 addressed directly to O\/C Legal SFU Lagos, ACP Sa\u2019idu Murtala Usman it states that you are an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) attached to Special Fraud Unit (SFU), Milverton, Lagos State. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBy virtue of your rank as AC Legal, you are expected to be conversant with extant rules, regulation and code of conduct guiding the conduct of both police officers. Regrettably, you have fallen short of these noble expectations and have betrayed the confidence reposed on you by the Inspector General of Police.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In a follow-up Police Force Ref. No. AP.46640\/R&P\/FHQ\/ABJ\/V.1\/81 which was addressed to CP. Eloho, titled: Query for Disobedience to Lawful Order\u2019 dated 19th<\/sup> May 2026 signed by DIG. Zango, it reads unedited: \u201cYou are the Commissioner of Police, SFU, Milverton, Lagos State. By virtue of your rank and experience, you are expected to be conversant with extant rules, regulation and code of conduct guiding the conduct of both police officers. Regrettably, you have fallen short of these noble expectations and have betrayed the confidence reposed on you by the Inspector General of Police<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou will recall there was a case of Obtaining the sum of Thirty-Two Million Naira (N32,000,000.00) reported by Alhaji Kabiru Sani Kaita against One Mr. Olawale Sanusi, Alhaja Munirat Sanusi and Alhaji Mahmood Suleiman which was charge to court about 15years ago and was surreptitiously withdrawn from the Federal High Court Lagos State without the consent of the complainant, that was done in connivance of the IPO ASP Sylvester Azubuike and O\/C Legal SFU Lagos. Recalled also that the DIG Research & Planning spoke to you instructing you that the matter should be returned to court and you were directed to issue queries to the officers: IPO ASP Sylvester Azubuike and O\/C Legal SFU Lagos, ACP Sa\u2019idu Murtala Usman for the offence of Gross Misconduct and an Act unbecoming of police officer.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou failed to comply by these directives given to you by the DIG of Police Research & Planning Department; the Inspector General of Police is highly piqued by this disobedience and had directed that you should be queried. You are hereby queried for the following act of disobedience to lawful order. Refusal to take\/carry out lawful instructions from superior officers contrary to Public Service Rule 100301 (L), 2021 as amended.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYou are therefore required to explain in writing within 72 hours of receipt of this query why disciplinary action should not be taken against you. Your explanation in quadruplicate if any should be submitted through the appropriate channel within the stipulated period. However, if you failed to respond within the time frame; it will be presumed that you have none to offer and the Inspector General of Police will be at liberty to take any action deemed appropriate in the circumstance.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Only time will tell what the fates of the erring police officers will be. And one thing is clear, every action has its consequences, and Nigeria is a sovereign country of law and order, not a Banana Republic. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
