THERE is tension presently in the Republican Party, in the United States of America over the possible fear that Democrats will win over the Congress in a landslide scale come midterm elections on November 3rd<\/sup>, 2026, and in less than 3 weeks from now after winners would have emerged, they will all be in a hot soup of flurry of testimonial appearances in Washington DC facing various scrutinies.<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n

House Speaker Mike Johnson has told voters and Republican activists that losing the 2026 midterms would trigger far more than an impeachment fight, warning that Democrats would launch sweeping investigations into President Donald Trump\u2019s family, cabinet and donors.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking at the Faith and Freedom Coalition\u2019s \u201cRoad to Majority\u201d conference, Johnson said impeachment would be the least of Republicans\u2019 worries if Democrats retake the House.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIf we were to lose the midterms, heaven forbid, these Democrats, y\u2019all, impeachment\u2019s not even the big concern,\u201d<\/span> Johnson said.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

In earlier remarks to Republicans, Johnson described the threat going beyond impeachment entirely, saying Democrats would weaponize every congressional committee against Trump\u2019s inner circle. He reportedly told the closed-door gathering, \u201cI run the protection program. We\u2019ll take care of you,\u201d<\/span> framing the GOP majority as a shield for the administration.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Johnson has repeated the warning in multiple settings, telling one audience that a Democratic-controlled Congress would \u201cturn every committee of Congress into an investigative body\u201d and \u201cdo nothing all day, every day… but go after the president, his family, his cabinet… donors in the party, big figures in business and industry. There is fear everywhere.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Democrats have pushed back on the framing. Robert Garcia, the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, responded bluntly that Johnson is \u201cnot wrong\u201d about the likelihood of investigations, effectively confirming the scrutiny Johnson is warning against rather than disputing it.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Columbia University political scientist Robert Y. Shapiro told Newsweek that such investigations reflect real concerns given the volume of alleged misdeeds, and suggested Johnson\u2019s warning is partly aimed at mobilizing the Republican base ahead of November.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Republicans currently hold a narrow House majority, and control of the chamber remains uncertain heading into the midterms.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
