Medical Institution in Africa&#8217;s most populous nation is presently in sad moods. Nigerians irrespective of their religions, race, ethnic barriers or political affiliations are grieving the untimely death of some of the best brains in the area of medical practice, active members of the prestigious Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) who lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident along the Abuja-Kaduna Expressway. In an emergency meeting of the National Officers\u2019 Committee (NOC) meeting held at 7.00am today, Monday 25th April, 2016 at Giginya Coral Hotel Sokoto, NMA released the true names of the six deceased doctors and the late driver from Ekiti State, while others in same vehicle survived the auto crash by providence currently undergoing serious medication. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">In a press statement signed, issued by NMA President, Dr. Kayode Obembe and Dr. Adewunmi Alayaki, Secretary General titled &#8216;NMA releases identity of Ekiti dead Doctors&#8217; explained resolution undertaken by NMA as: \u201cAt the emergency meeting of the NMA, we resolved on the followings<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">1. As a follow-up to the earlier statement issued by NOC yesterday, it is now confirmed that the Ekiti State delegates for the Annual General Conference\/Annual Delegates Meeting (AGC\/ADM) currently holding in Sokoto, were involved in a fatal motor accident along Abuja-Kaduna Expressway. Six of our members and the driver have been confirmed dead and these are their names:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">i. Dr. Alex Akinyele \u2013 Secretary NMA Ekiti, Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Ido Ekiti<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">ii. Dr. Tunde Aladesanmi \u2013 General Surgeon, FTH, Ido Ekiti<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">iii. Dr. O.J. Taiwo \u2013 Anatomic Pathologist, Ekiti State University<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">iv. Dr. Ogunseye J.B \u2013 National Association of General and Government<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Medical and Dental Practitioners (NAGGMDP) National Secretary, Hospital Management<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">Board (HMB), Ekiti<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">v.Dr. Olajide .O \u2013 Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), EKSUTH<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">President<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">vi. Dr. Atolani Adeniyi \u2013 Secretary NAGGMDP, Ekiti State<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">vii. Mr. Ajibola \u2013 NMA Ekiti Driver<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">2. Other members of the delegates who survived the accident are in stable condition and are receiving medical attention under the auspices of the Chairman of the Kaduna State NMA and his team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">3. The bereaved families have been contacted and arrangements are in motion to convey the bodies back to Ekiti State<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">4. NOC has sent its representatives to Kaduna for on the spot assessment and compliment the effort of the Kaduna team.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">5. While the conference continues, the NOC hereby directs that all doctors should observe one week of mourning from Tuesday 26th to Tuesday 3rd of May, 2016. Every doctor should put on Black band on the left arm over white overall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">6. NMA is in contact with the bereaved families and burial arrangements will be communicated in due course.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">7. May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace. We pray that the Almighty God gives the bereaved and all our Hippocratic families the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><b>Nigerian Government Reacts<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\"><br \/>\nReacting officially on behalf of the Nigerian Government, the Honourable Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole commiserates with the President, National Executive Council and the entire membership of NMA over the loss of six senior medical doctors that died in a ghastly motor accident along Kaduna road on the 24th April 2016, while on their way to attend the 56th Annual Conference and General Delegates Meeting of NMA in Sokoto.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif;\">In a press statement released on behalf of Minister of Health by Boade Akinola, Director Media and Public Relations, it reads: \u201cOur prayers is that almighty God in his infinite mercy will give the family, friends and the entire members of NMA the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. To the survivors, our prayers is that they will recover soon and get integrated into their normal daily activities. The Federal Ministry of Health is in constant touch with the leadership of the NMA so that the survivors of the accident could get the best healthcare service.
