NIGERIA is in the news again, not for good reasons as her state of health facilities are in quandry. And
\ngoing by our investigations, it has just been confirmed that 800 pregnant women die annually due to child-
\nbirth, rape cases of girls have risen to 84 % with no accredited medical laboratory in the country; while
\nthe University College Hospital (UCH) has got no equipment to treat Cervical Cancer in an environment where
\nover 67 million youths are unemployed and 45 million Nigerians are illiterate.To cap it all, the dreaded
\nBoko Haram Sect have now allegedly concluded plans to recruit these unemployed youths into their matrys list;
\nwith assurances of financial reward to their new recruits families againt the 2015 Elections in Nigeria.<\/p>\n

2015 Elections under Threat<\/p>\n

Undercover investigations conducted by our reporters showed that except a quick solution is found by Federal Government,
\nmajority of this unemployed youths estimated over 67 million may be willing tools in the hands of politicians as thugs or
\n‘sell’ their souls to the devil by joining the Satanic Boko Haram terrorists to espcape poverty. And this would in
\nturn overheat the polity and may eventually lead to anarchy in the course of the elections.<\/p>\n

Boko Haram Plans Youths Recruitment…<\/p>\n

As at the time of filling this report, Naija Standard confirmed from a reliable source in the deadly sect that
\n‘Carrot’ is now being dangled before the army of employed youths by Boko Haram, on the condition that they would be
\nwilling to fight Jihad War againt the Nigerian Government during the 2015 elections, while their next of kins become
\nbeneficiaries of the Sect’s ‘blood money.’ The source said “From North East, North Central, North South, we are currently
\nrecruiting youths willing to take up arms against this present Nigerian administration. They must be willing to take up
\nJihad War and their families would be financially rewarded. We’ve got new hideouts as training grounds for these new
\nrecruits in gueirilla warfare, outside the knowledge of Nigeria’s security operatives.”<\/p>\n

UCH Ibadan Lacks Medical Equipment to treat Cervical Cancer<\/p>\n

Naija Standard investigation revealed that the famous University College Hospital (UCH) has no single
\nmedical equipment to resolve the riddle of Cervical Cancer. Confirming this view recently, Theresa Elumelu,
\na Consultant Radiologist at UCH reportedly said “UCH Ibadan records between 650 and 800 cases of cancer annually
\nbut is not equipped to treat the patients.” Corroborating this view, Prof. Anthony Emeribe, Registrar\/Chief
\nExecutive Officer of Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria “The hospital has not been supplied with any
\nequipment that could be used for the treatment of cervical cancer.”<\/p>\n

45 Million Illiterate in Nigeria-UNESCO<\/p>\n

In a damn verdict, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has stated that
\nthere are an estimated 40 to 45million illiterate persons in Nigeria. UNESCO Country Representative Dr Joseph Ngu
\nmade this observation recently in Celebration of 2012 International Literacy Day. He said Nigeria is one of the
\ncountries among the E9 countries where education is a problem and the only one in sub-Sahara Africa, because it
\nhas above a 100 million people.<\/p>\n

In the words of Ngu \u201cthe UN office in Nigeria had a three-year project ‘Revitalizing Adult and Youth literacy’ which
\nthey hope will make a dent in the number of illiterate people in Nigeria, even if it is only 4 to 6 million people.\u201d<\/p>\n

On his part, UN Resident Coordinator, Daouda Taoure, remarked that a recent survey conducted by Nigeria\u2019s
\nNational Bureau of Statistics estimates that that the adult literacy rate was 56.9 percent with huge variations
\nbetween states, adding that while Lagos had 88 %, Yobe had only 14 %. To him, urban areas had 75 % and rural 48 %,
\nmales had 65 percent, while females had 49 %.<\/p>\n

Further, he explained that \u201cStatistics from the Ministry of Education, showed that 500,000 of the 40 million adult
\nilliterates were enrolled in adult classes, while 3.5 million nomadic school aged children had only 450,000 accessing
\nany form of schooling, while enrolment of children into schools in some states was as low as 12.0%\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon went further to say an estimated 775 million young people
\nand adults around the world still cannot read or write, while 122 million children of primary and lower secondary
\nage remained out of school.<\/p>\n

Rape Cases in Nigeria on the Rise<\/p>\n

Naija Standard observed so sadly that cases of rape have gone up from 12.5 per cent to 84 per cent in Nigeria.
\nCOnfirming this recently, Dr (Mrs) Omolara Smith, President, Zonta Club II, Ibadan, said violence against women had
\nbecome more rampant and called on the government to enact appropriate laws to serve as deterrence to culprits. Smith
\nsaid this to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Gender-Based Violence. Her words: \u201cviolence against women
\nand children in Nigeria has challenged us to act in solidarity to promote and end violence against women and girls.
\nOver the years, cases of rape and other violence against women have been on the increase. It is our view that this can
\nonly be reduced or eradicated with proper legislation and stiff penalty. Violence can lead to extreme physical,
\nmental and psychological condition or even death, it can take place domestically, in the public or as part of community
\nconflicts. Women are more likely to be victimised by someone they are intimate with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over 67 Million Youths Unemployed<\/p>\n

Recent statistics have shown that over 67 million Nigerian youths are unemployed and the scenario opens the country to
\na major crisis if not quickly addressed. The Director-General, National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Mallam Abubakar
\nMohammed, made this revelation recently when he said the higher the number of unemployed youths, the more likely a crisis
\ncould be stirred. Mallam Mohammed, ably represented by the NDE Director of Small Scale Enterprises, Kunle Obayan, said
\nthis during the graduation and resettlement of beneficiaries of Solar Energy Training Scheme, in Ilorin, the Kwara State.<\/p>\n

He said “There’s urgent need to take youths off the streets and put them to work. This was one of the ways through which
\nthe desired peace and economic development in the country could be achieved. Cupiously quoting the National Bureau of
\nStatistics, he said the figure was what was obtainable as of 2011, adding that unemployment and poverty, especially among
\nthe youth, had remained one of the fundamental challenges threatening the economic development of Nigeria.He added:
\n“According to the National Bureau of Statistics, Nigeria has a population of over 67 million unemployed youths as of 2011.
\nThis is out of a population of about 167 million persons.The higher the number of unemployed youths in the country, the
\nmore likely a crisis can be stirred. It is, therefore, imperative that these youths be put to work and taken off the
\nstreets so as to achieve peace and economic development. The resettlement of the graduates of the scheme marked another
\nmilestone in the fight against unemployment and poverty among youths.”<\/p>\n

800 Pregnant Women die annually-UNFPA<\/p>\n

Naija Standard can assure you that 800 pregant women in Nigeria die yearly during childbirth as a result of poor
\nmedical hospitals we ‘pride in.’ Confirming this revelation, UNFPA, Executive Director, Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin,
\nsaid 800 women die in pregnancy or childbirth annualy as a result of complications that were often preventable in
\nour hospitals.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Osotimehin said of every woman who dies, around 20 more suffer debilitating childbirth injuries such
\nas obstetric fistula. His words: \u201cWe already have an international consensus on how to address that. All we need now are
\nresources and accelerated and sustained action. Working for the survival and the well-being of women and girls was a
\nhuman right imperative and in order to take advantage of women\u2019s full potential in the development of their nations,
\nthey must be able to plan their lives and families. \u201cThis is why the international community is determined to making
\nuniversal access to reproductive health a priority. As we commemorate this year\u2019s World Population Day, it is time to
\nre-energise our commitment to universal access to reproductive health services, especially voluntary family planning.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis commitment is relevant today as it was when world leaders made it at the 1994 International Conference
\non Population and Development in Cairo. We have to meet the needs of 222 million women who want to delay or avoid
\npregnancy, but have no access to modern contraceptives. This would help prevent 21 million unplanned births;
\nthis would also help prevent 79,000 maternal deaths and 1.1 million infant deaths.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
