A\nNIGERIAN ONCE FAMOUS-TURNED-NOTORIOUS CHATTERED ACCOUNTANT AND\nPASTOR, SAM KAYODE has been sentenced to nine years in prison for\nstealing \u00a34.1m. He was sentenced by Woolwich Crown Court in South\nLondon for defrauding Haberdashers\u2019 Aske\u2019s state schools in the\nUnited Kingdom, UK. The part-time pastor, who earned \u00a357,000 per\nannum, was convicted after being found guilty of \u00a3150,000 theft and\n\u00a33.95m fraud. Out of the \u00a34.1m, only \u00a3800,000 was recovered from\nhim. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Described\nas \u201cdishonest\u201d and \u201cgreedy\u201d in British court of justice, the\ncourt heard how Kayode lavished the loot on four women \u2013 his wife,\nGrace; a second \u2018wife\u2019 in Nigeria, Olubunmi Halima; and two other\nwomen in the UK. British\nprosecutor, James Thacker, said he also bought luxury cars, including\na Mercedes, an Audi TT sports car and an Infiniti car with the money.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\ncourt also heard how for seven years, the convict looted the accounts\nof Haberdashers. He was said to be secretive, locking himself in his\noffice to work late \u201cafter arriving in a Mercedes, wearing \u00a3500\nGucci shoes and carrying a Louis Vuitton briefcase.\u201d\nThacker\nsaid the father of four from Ilford, East London, was too arrogant to\nadmit his guilt even after he was caught red-handed in 2012.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kayode\ntried to blame the crime on his late wife and a junior colleague,\nsaying they conspired to tarnish his image by transferring the money\nto his account in revenge for his adultery.His\ncrime was exposed when a school cleaner stumbled on some of (his)\nKayode\u2019s documents. The cleaner was said to have made an anonymous\ncall to the schools\u2019 Chief Finance Officer, Yvonne Smithers.\nThe\naccounts manager started work at Haberdashers\u2019 \u2013 which has links\nwith the public schools of the same name \u2013 in 1997. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According\nto the prosecutor, in 2006, Kayode starting using the BACS (a system\nin the UK for making payments directly from one bank account to\nanother) money transfer system to put \u201ctens of thousands at a time\ndirectly into a joint account held with wife Grace.\u201d\nHe\nadded, \u201cHe then spent up to \u00a398,000 a month.\u201d \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart\nfrom spending money on his wife\u2019s health care until her death in\n2013, Kayode also signed documents showing he was making investments\nwith Halima, and renting flats in Kent for \u2018partners\u2019 Toyin Lawal\nand Yetunde Turtak.\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
