The success or failure of any government is predicated upon the nation’s national security in concert with intelligence policies. National security is the requirement to maintain the survival of the nation-state through the use of economic, military and political solutions. Greatly affecting Nigeria now is the continual attack on Nigeria by Boko Haram, a notorious Islamic militant group, Kidnapping-being another form of terrorism, armed robbery and lawlessness. Regrettably, 40million Unemployed youths and 80% graduates unemployable in Nigerian job market are twin problems that must be dealt with by the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan. In the words of Robert McNamara a former United States Secretary of Defence, he reported said: “Any society that seeks to achieve adequate military security against the background of acute food shortages, population explosion, low level of productivity and per capital income, low technological development, inadequate and sufficient public utilities and chronic problem of unemployment, has a false sense of security.’’

National Security threat

Naija Standard reportedly gathered that National Security Agency (NSA) saddled with the stable national security of the nation through the National Security Adviser ought to have clear and achievable objectives on how to keep this country safe. The NDP recognizes that potential threats exist arising primarily from unresolved geopolitical issues. One of such unresolved issues is Nigeria’s extensive [about 4900km] and largely un-demarcated borders with the four contiguous countries of Republics of Benin, Niger, Chad and Cameron. Nigeria will continue to experience border violations as long as these borders are not properly defined, demarcated and protected.
