A\nNIGERIAN MAN ON A visiting vi<\/strong>sa\nin Pittsburgh, United States, MONSURU OGUNBIYI is in deep trouble\nfor coercing a-28-year-old American lady, Ajia Strauss into help of\nobtaining a permanent resident status in ‘Green Card’ acquisition\nafter paying her the sum of $1,500 cash. He submitted fake document\nto United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, USCIS, to\ndeceive them. Ajia has now told American prosecutors that she is\nguilty of the crime. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This\nNew Jersey woman admitted in federal court few days ago into entering\na sham marriage with a Nigerian man who was living in Pittsburgh so\nhe could become a permanent resident, according to prosecutors.Ajia\nStrauss, 28, of Newark, pleaded guilty in Pittsburgh federal court to\nconspiracy to defraud the United States. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strauss and Monsuru Ogunbiyi,\na citizen of Nigeria, married on June 3, 2016, in exchange for\n$1,500, according to court papers. The fake couple later submitted\nfalsified documents and made untrue statements to USCIS.\n<\/strong> \n \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strauss and Ogunbiyi did other\nthings to make themselves appear a couple \u2014 staging photographs,\nclaiming to live together and opening a joint bank account, according\nto prosecutors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He filed in December 2017 an\napplication for permanent residency status. But the scheme apparently\nunraveled as authorities obtained text messages between the pair that\nshowed a discussion about using Strauss\u2019 address \u201cand that they\nneeded to learn more about each other,\u201d according to the\nindictment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ogunbiyi pleaded guilty to the\nsame offense in December and was sentenced to time served. He spent\nabout two and a half months in jail, according to court records. They\nwere indicted in July. The\nCourt set sentencing for June 4, 2020 at 10:00 a.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nThe\nlaw provides for a maximum total sentence of not more than five years\nin prison, a fine of not more than $250,000.00, or both, for the\ncharge of conspiracy to defraud the United States. Under the Federal\nSentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed would be based\nupon the seriousness of the offense and the prior criminal history,\nif any, of the defendant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assistant\nUnited States Attorney Robert S. Cessar is prosecuting this case on\nbehalf of the government<\/p>\n\n\n\n
