Of particular worry are the 100,000 Nigerian prostitutes plying their trade by selling their bodies for financial gain at night clubs, pubs, joints, bars and on the streets. Also, the true story of Ose Tina Imugbeagbon, a-14 year Edo State girl, a cancer patient who traveled in company of an ‘aunt’ in her Benin City neighborhood secretly to Italy in assurance of ‘good education and hair dressing job’ is so pathetic being that this girl is made to engage older men in sexual slavery and was repeatedly raped by ‘gangs’ in a brothel in Naples.

Underage Girls Raped, Impregnated

Investigation by Naija Standard showed that many of these gangs take pleasure in ‘brutally raping underage girls. In Italy, you can find a minimum of 600 Nigerian prostitutes; mostly teenagers along a 30-kilometer stretch of the pot-holed road in the bay of Naples.

Across Italy, Nigerian women are forced into the sex trade, kept as slaves who are bought and sold and moved according to a moribund supply and demand. Some of the prostitutes are young girls, just 13 or 14 years old. Others are in their 20s or 30s. Many have children. Some are still married to men in Nigeria. They usually sit on white plastic chairs under umbrellas to protect them from the rain in the winter and the harsh sun in the summer. The highest concentration of Nigerian forced sex workers is in and around Naples, but they are not limited to the southern reaches.

‘Nigerian Girls sold for $50,000’- former anti-mafia mayor of Casal di Principe

Naija Standard investigation was further confirmed by Renato Natale, a local Neapolitan doctor who is a former anti-mafia mayor of Casal di Principe, who reportedly said “the majority of the Nigerian girls and women who are sex slaves were sold for around $50,000 by their parents or husbands in Nigeria, often to pay loan sharks or to get families out of debt. Some women paid sums of more than $13,000 out of their own pockets in exchange for the promise to find legitimate work in Italy with the goal of sending money home or even eventually bringing their entire families over. Natale says when they arrive in Italy, they are often raped into submission and plied with drugs and turned into prostitutes.

Voodoo Initiation

Naija Standard learnt that many of the women have scars on their bodies from a voodoo-style initiation ritual where they pledge allegiance to their pimps out of fear of torture. During initiation, they were made to undergo vaginal penetration with a hot candle, which bring scars on their inner thighs from the hot wax. Italian police sometimes pay for sex because these prostitutes have no protection.

Ose told Naija Standard that she was required to pay the Nigerian mafia dons who connived with the aunty in her Benin City neighborhood the sum of $400 a month for one-square-meter of highway to work off the $50,000 investment. Her words: “These Nigerians pay a fee to the Casalesi clan of the Camorra organized-crime syndicate, who run the sex trade around Naples. Natale says the women are not allowed to charge more than $13 a trick—the market rate for street sex in the impoverished south and they are not allowed to refuse customers. For fear they could not charge more since they were being watched all the time. Italian police regularly drive by or send spies to make sure we stayed in line.”

Prostitution legal in Italy

Italian law admits that “Prostitution is not illegal in Italy as long as the sex workers are over 18, but it is illegal to pick up a prostitute on the street.” Recently, police have been enforcing the client crackdown on roadside prostitution by fining the clients, so the mob has started buying up apartment blocks along the Via Domitiana and in other parts of the country. These they have done by moving the women off the streets and into the villas where drugs are sold in the basement and sex is sold upstairs. Natale explained: “These people are treated like merchandise. They are being kept in these houses that are protected by armed guards. They were somewhat safer on the streets because at least there we could check on them.”

There is little hope to stop the illegal sex-trafficking racket, says Natale, because most of the women are illegal immigrants and do not have documents and are not in the Italian state system and therefore “nonexistent” in the eyes of the authorities. But there is also a bigger problem in that there is no authoritative government, entity currently involved in stopping sex trafficking in Italy. All the work is done by non-governmental organizations with limited funds and virtually no power.

African girls trapped in Italy’s sex-slave trade

Statistics have indicated that every year tens of thousands of West Africans migrate to Europe in search of a better life. But for some of them that search will end in tragedy, as they fall victim to competing mafia gangs that prey on the hopes of the desperate. In southern Italy, it is Nigerian women who are among the most exploited, with many ending up trapped in the nightmare world of the sex trade.

The ghetto of Destra Volturno, an assembly of houses once used by Neapolitan tourists, is surrounded by flowers as it hosts the funeral of Mary Morad, a seven-year-old from Ghana. She was killed by a man with psychiatric problems. But in Castel Volturno, more than one-third of the 25,000 official citizens are African and, in particular, Ghanaian and Nigerian.

100,000 Nigerian Girls Enslave in Drugs, Prostitution

Undercover investigation by Naija Standard revealed 100,000 Nigerian girls already enslaved in drugs and prostitution from Spain to Italy, France to Germany, Poland to Belgium; Holland to Amsterdam. It is so pathetic.

United Nations Confirmation

According to the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI), its recent report says: “Italy is now the main destination for more than 10,000 Nigerian prostitutes, trafficked from Benin City to European cities and criminal hubs, just like the Domitiana and its coast. Nigerian criminals are able to find agreements with all the mafias, from Colombians to Chinese. But it’s an easy game for them in Italy also for another reason: the high number of Italian clients who look for prostitutes night and day.”

Giovanni Conzo, a prosecutor at the anti-mafia section in Naples said “This organisation is stronger than ever. We should stop them before they take full control of our region.”

Using voodoo to enslave girls

Amen Osamudiamen, a former victim of trafficking and now the main reference point for Nigerian women in Italy, knows how this business is managed in Caserta’s area. As she walks in Castel Volturno’s historic centre, she reportedly stated: “Today in Italy there are almost 10,000 madams, each one in control of an average of two or three girls. Madams are the key. They are the main actors in this exploitation. They force girls into prostitution and ask for money to repay the debt. They work with “brothers”, men who are in charge of trafficking these ‘babies’, as girls forced into prostitution are called. Nigerian human trafficking is often associated with drug smuggling and a distorted use of religious tradition.

“The women and girls are often forced to undergo a Juju oath-swearing ritual that commits them to repaying the money they owe to their smugglers on pain of death or insanity. The Juju, the voodoo rite, it’s not a bad practice. It was used to bring justice, but they ruined everything. They don’t care how they make their money as far as they make it. They use Juju to enslave.

“To pay for their travel, many of them incur massive debts to organised crime gangs in the false belief that a lucrative regular job awaits them at the other end. Often they are forced to undergo a Juju oath-swearing ritual that commits them to repaying the money on pain of death or insanity.

“When they arrive in Europe, they discover the only way they can do this is by agreeing to work in the sex trade. A Juju priest who is involved in the trade justifies the use of ritual practices on the grounds that he is offering a service to the community.

Burkina Faso records death cases of Female Genital Mutilation

Naija Standard further gathered that Burkina Faso recently had 164 girls circumcised, but 19 had complications. Burkinafaso government said “164 girls were circumcised, 19 of whom had complications related to Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) including five dead, the Permanent Secretary of the Burkinabe National Council against FGM/C (SP/CNLPE). The figures of the last Demographic Health Survey (2010) reveal that 75% of Burkinabe women aged between 15 and 19 have been circumcised. The same survey shows that only 13.30% girls aged between 0 and 14 years are circumcised.”

‘South African Girls Pregnant, have HIV from Sugar Daddies’-Health Minister

Aaron Motsoaledi, South Africa’s Health Minister revealed that at least 28 percent of South African schoolgirls have HIV because of “sugar daddies.” Speaking at an event called “Taking Parliament to the people,” the health minister revealed new statistics that show only 4 percent of boys have the virus. Motsoaledi also said 94,000 South African girls became pregnant in 2011, and that 77,000 had abortions.

His words: “It is clear that it is not young boys who are sleeping with these girls. It is old men. We must take a stand against sugar daddies because they are destroying our children.” In recent years, Motsoaledi has made numerous public appearances urging South Africans to get tested for the virus, and has led nation-wide testing campaigns to diagnose men and women alike.

BY GEORGE ELIJAH OTUMU/EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, back from EUROPE PROSTITUTION by Nigerians and other African nationals have reached a dangerous dimension now in Europe, with underage girls as young as 12-14years and older ladies as 20-25years being sold into sexual slavery by few gangs who exploit them sexually, psychologically and financially with an underlying threat of […]

[102

post-645","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-nigeria
["GET
