In their\nlast statement before been rushed to the hospital, the two agreed\nthat based on United States President, Donald Trump assurance  of the\nlikely efficacy of Chloroquine tablets to cure Covid-19, they had\nself-medicated to remain healthy.  <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nigeria\nreported two cases of chloroquine poisoning after U.S. President\nDonald Trump praised the anti-malaria drug as a treatment for the\nnovel coronavirus. <\/strong>Health\nofficials are warning Nigerians against self-medicating after demand\nfor the drug surged in Lagos, a city that\u2019s home to 20 million\npeople. \u201cTwo people were hospitalized in Lagos for chloroquine\noverdoses. Please\ndon\u2019t panic. Chloroquine is still in a testing phase in combination\nwith other medication and not yet verified as a preventive treatment\nor curative option,\u201d\nOreoluwa Finnih, senior health assistant to the governor of Lagos,\nreportedly said. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nigeria\u2019s\nCentre for Disease Control warned that the World Health Organization\nhasn\u2019t approved use of the drug against the virus. Africa\u2019s most\npopulous country reported 22 infections as of Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump\nsaid Thursday that chloroquine and its less-toxic cousin\nhydroxychloroquine had shown \u201ctremendous promise\u201d to treat the\nnew illness. The president doubled down on Saturday, telling his\nTwitter followers that hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin \u201ctaken\ntogether\u201d could be \u201cone of the biggest game changers in the\nhistory of medicine.\u201d He urged they \u201cbe put in use IMMEDIATELY.\u201d\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump\nalso retweeted\nan\nonline post about a small study of 26 patients that showed success in\neradicating the new coronavirus when the two drugs were taken\ntogether. Some hospitals have already begun stockpiling\nhydroxychloroquine,\nand medical institutions are gearing up to conduct further studies.\nIn the meantime, experts say\nusing\nthe drug and its cousin chloroquine to treat Covid-19 isn\u2019t backed\nby enough scientific evidence. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>In\nNigeria, health authorities are warning against self-medicating,\nafter two patients overdosed on the anti-malaria drug chloroquine,\nwhich President Trump has praised as a possible treatment for\ncoronavirus. Tests are currently being carried out with\nanti-malarials in the U.S. and other countries, but the FDA<\/strong><strong>\n<\/strong><strong>and\nthe WHO<\/strong><strong>\n<\/strong><strong>have\nnot approved its use as a treatment for COVID-19. Back in the U.S.,\nlupus patients have reported shortages of the drug hydroxychloroquine\n\u2014 which is used to treat both malaria and lupus \u2014 following\nTrump\u2019s recent statements.<\/strong><strong>\n<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nigerian\nhealth officials on Monday issued a warning about chloroquine, an\nantimalarial drug President Trump<\/strong><strong>\n<\/strong><strong>has\nrepeatedly touted as a possible coronavirus treatment, saying three\npeople have overdosed on it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nLagos\nState Gov.
