THE\nNIGERIAN POLICE has come out in full force to condemn the attitude of\n some ‘Men-of-God’ to re-open their Churches for Sunday service,\nfollowing the Federal government directive for people to stay safe in\nthe age of Coronavirus to preserve peoples lives. The police in Ogun\nState have sent strong warning to Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living\nFaith Church (Winners Chapel) over his plan to reopen his church.\n<\/strong>Oyedepo\u2019s\nLiving Faith Church is headquartered in Ota, Ado-Odo\/Ota Local\nGovernment area of Ogun State.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In\na veiled reference to Oyedepo, the police said they have information\nthat some religious leaders in Ogun are preparing to open their\nreligious centres for people to converge.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This,\nthe police said was in total disobedience to both the state and\nfederal government directives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A\nstatement by the state Police Spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said\nappealed to such religious leaders to have a change of heart, saying\n\u201csecurity agencies in the state will view the opening of worship\ncentres with all seriousness.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oyeyemi\nsaid the police would not tolerate any act capable of undermining the\ndetermination of the state and federal government to fight\nCoronavirus to a standstill, stressing that \u201cthe ban on all forms\nof gathering be it social or religious is still in force.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nstatement reads:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\nhas come to the notice of Ogun State Police Command that some\nreligious leaders in the state are preparing to open their various\nreligious centers for people to converge in total disobedience to\nboth the state and federal government directives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201c<\/strong>The\ncommand hereby appeals to such religious leaders in both Islamic and\nChristian faith who may be having such intention to have a change of\nmind because the security agencies in the state will view such with\nall seriousness.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe\ncommand will not tolerate any act capable of undermining the\ndetermination of the state and federal government to fight the COVID\n19 pandemic to a standstill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe\ncommissioner of police, therefore, wish to use this medium to remind\nall religious leaders that the ban on all forms of gathering; be it\nsocial or religious is still in force. He also admonished all and\nsundry to cooperate with the government in its efforts to make the\nstate coronavirus-free.\u201d (Sunday Independent)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
