JESSICA\nEDOSOMWAN, a Nigerian born French resident is a fugitive on the watch\nlist of European Police, Europol for creating a  twenty-four persons\nsex trafficking ring forcing Nigerian women into prostitution in\nFrance. She give falsified hopes to young girls in Benin City, Edo\nstate of a better life in Europe, unknowingly for the recruits they\nare being used as pawns and resource generation for Jessica.  <\/strong><strong>\n<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Almost\neveryone in her gang had been arrested, with only Jessica on the run.\nHer  <\/strong><strong>sex\ntrafficking ring had been busted and they had been placed<\/strong><strong>\n<\/strong><strong>on\ntrial <\/strong><strong>since\nlate last year<\/strong><strong>\nin the city of Lyon. Jessica ha<\/strong><strong>s<\/strong><strong>\nbeen tried in absentia. Here\u2019s why the Nigerian was declared by\nEuropol (European Police Office) as its most wanted female suspect.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jessica Edosomwan\nis currently wanted for prosecution by the French judicial\nauthorities in an international case of human trafficking and\nsmuggling network. She is alleged to be a member of a criminal\nnetwork from Nigeria, operating in all the major cities in France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The organisation\nis alleged to have recruited young girls from small towns in Nigeria\nby promising to fund their journey to Western Europe. Once they\ncontracted this debt, the girls were allegedly subjected to a\nreligious (juju) rite, which \u201cprovided the criminal network leader,\noften a religious, a strong psychological hold and a means of\npressure on their families in the country\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>When\nthey arrived in France, the young Nigerian girls had to pay a debt of\n50,000 to 60,000 euros each. The money was recovered and sent\nback to Nigeria through a traditional informal payment system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prosecutors\nestimate that 17 alleged victims, aged 17 to 38, made up to 150,000\neuros a month for the syndicate, selling sex for as little as 10\neuros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of the women\ncome from Benin City, a centre of human trafficking, and many told\ninvestigators they had made the dangerous journey across the Sahara\nDesert to Libya, then across the Mediterranean to Italy before ending\nup in Lyon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>According\nto the investigations conducted by the French judicial police, 24\npersons were involved in this criminal network. Among them is Jessica\nEdosomwan, who\u2019s accused of recruiting women for the sex trade in\nLyon, Nimes and Montpellier.<\/strong><strong>\n<\/strong><strong>According\nto Jacques Croly Labourdette, head of the National Fugitive Research\nBrigade (BNRF), Jessica Edosomwan was a \u201cmama\u201d of this network.\nAs such, the suspect \u201ccared for girls\u201d but also had the mission\nto find new recruits in Nigeria. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>She\nis also alleged to be involved in the transfer and money laundering\nin Nigeria.<\/strong><strong>\n <\/strong><strong>Jessica\nEdosomwan is reported by Europol, the official intelligence agency of\nthe European Union, to have been on the run since 2017 and could be\nhiding in France, Germany or Belgium. A European arrest warrant was\nissued against her in November 2017. <\/strong><strong>Jessica\nEdosomwan, a Nigerian citizen who escaped after police raided a\nprostitution ring in Lyon in 2007, is <\/strong><strong>still\nbeing<\/strong><strong>\n<\/strong><strong>wanted\ntoday by French authorities.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nThe\n27-year-old fugitive is alleged to have been part of a gang of human\nsmugglers who used a form of witchcraft known as \u2018juju\u2019 to force\nyoung Nigerian girls into prostitution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nThe\nring she was involved in exploited some 60 prostitutes who were\nsmuggled into France through Libya with the promise of a better\nfuture when they arrived. Once in France, the destitute women were\nsubjected to voodoo \u2018juju\u2019 rites and their families were\nthreatened, Europol said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nThe\nvictims, who were run by an older woman known as \u2018la Mama,\u2019 were\nthen prostituted on the streets. The money they made was then sent\nback to Nigeria through an informal payment system known as \u2018hawala\u2019.<strong>\n<\/strong>Jessica has been on the run since 2017, but she is\nbelieved to be either in the Benelux countries, Italy or Germany,\npolice said<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nThe\ncase against the those involved is expected to start in Lyon on\nNovember 6 and Edosomwan is the only suspect still outstanding.
