FOR\n200 Nigerians whose legal status in Canada has become illegal, they\nare desperate to return back to Nigeria. Unfortunately, it may take a\nbit longer for their desire to come through as ‘Air Peace’ the\nairline designated by the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa to bring\nthem home had huge difficulty in securing overflight and landing\npermits from the Canadian authorities on time. <\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nThe\nNigeria High Commission in Ottawa, which is organising the flight,\nannounced the postponement in a statement, citing \u201clogistics\nissues\u201d beyond its control. It specifically blamed the inability of\nAir Peace \u2013 the chosen carrier \u2013 to secure \u201coverflight and\nlanding permits\u201d from the Canadian authorities on time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThese\nchallenges are as a result of the fact that Air Peace is flying this\nroute for the first time. The high commission opted for Air Peace\nbecause the air fare was relatively more affordable compared to the\noffers of other airlines that were contacted. This is coupled with\nthe fact that only Air Peace had agreed to convey the evacuees from\nmore than one location in Canada,\u201d the mission stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\nsaid a new date would be announced as soon as the airline secured the\nclearance from the Canadian authorities. The\nplane, a Boeing 777 aircraft, was scheduled to fly from Lagos to\nconvey the Nigerians stranded in Canada from two locations in Canada,\nnamely Toronto and Alberta.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According\nto the flight schedule, the plane was expected to pick the first set\nfrom the Pearson International Airport, Toronto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From\nthere it would fly to the Calgary International Airport, Alberta, a\ndistance of 2,915 kilometres, to pick the second set of passengers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\nThe\nprospective passengers had been given until Tuesday to book the\nspecial flight directly with the airline. (Nigerian Tribune)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
