On racism, a Gambian born\nUnited Kingdom, UK, legal resident, EBRIMA MBOOB was humiliated,\ndisgraced, dehumanized for showing interest in renting a room in the\nhands of a British woman, Elina Vimbsone, the landlord of the\napartment. The landlord did not hide her hatred for black people as\nshe refused to rent this African man room saying \u201cNigerians make\nhouse smell\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ebrima who lives in the UK \nwas told the property is ‘only for European people’ by landlord Elina\nVimbsone. The obviously shocked Ebrima,\nin tears studying performing arts at the University of the Arts\nLondon confessed: \u201cI was completely shocked at the landlord\u2019s\nresponse and I still am today. Growing up in England, I\u2019ve\nexperienced all types of racism, but this was the first time that\nI\u2019ve experienced something this absurd. What\nmakes it even more shocking is the fact she said \u2018will be brilliant\nif you can make the time to come and view\u2019, but soon changed her\nmind once she realised I was black.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\nwasn\u2019t expecting her to even ask me about my background as I didn\u2019t\nthink it was relevant and she even had the nerve to say it wasn\u2019t\nracist.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nlandlord, Vimbsone said: \u201cWe are not racist or just to be honest, I\nhave friends from Nigeria and all house smell what they cook.\u201d\n(sic)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\nadded: \u201cShe even tried to play it down by saying how she has\nNigerian friends and that all their houses smell like what they\ncook,\u201d he concluded. \u201cI\u2019ve\njust moved in with new housemates and I\u2019ve developed serious\nanxiety about cooking around them in case they hate the smell too.\u201d\nBack\nin 2017, Britain\u2019s\nbiggest buy-to-let landlord Fergus Wilson banned \u201ccoloured\u201d\npeople<\/a> <\/strong>because\nhe claimed they made his property smell of curry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He\nwas afterwards taken to court by The Equality and Human Rights\nCommission (EHRC), who said his actions were unlawful. Wilson denied\nbeing racist and said he rented to a number of non-white people.\nHe\nalso described his earlier remarks as \u201cadolescent banter\u201d from a\nleaked email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, Judge Richard Polden\nrejected the assertion at Maidstone County Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said: “I find that\nthis policy clearly amounts to discrimination. I find that the policy\nis unlawful.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
