The grand finale was a 20-minute in-studio performance by The Marley Brothers \u2013 Ziggy, Stephen, Damian, Julian, and Ky-Mani Marley.<\/span><\/p>\nThe standout performance of the Livestream was the appearance of Bob Marley\u2019s grandson Elijah Marley, who demonstrated his growing prowess as a singer, deejay, and percussionist.<\/span><\/p>\nElijah delivered an impressive drum solo before doing his bloodline proud with his grandfather\u2019s acclaimed classic, <\/span>Three Little Birds,<\/span><\/i> while accompanied by a small band including Shiah Coore.<\/span><\/p>\nFive hours later, the 12-year-old Marley heir would showcase the full diversity of his skills in a 13-minute medley, performing a Reggae mashup of Blake Shelton\u2019s <\/span>God\u2019s Country<\/span><\/i> and John Lennon\u2019s <\/span>Imagine.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\nHe also covered Stephen Marley & Capleton\u2019s <\/span>Rock Stone, <\/span><\/i>and finished with <\/span>Give Dem Some Way <\/span><\/i>and <\/span>Mr. Marley <\/span><\/i>by his father Damian Marley.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nElijah\u2019s mother is Cristal Chaitram and he has a sibling named Christian.<\/span><\/p>\nElijah\u2019s aunt Sharon and cousins Yohan and Skip Marley then took control, bringing a short but spicy family set that included Sharon\u2019s rendition of her mother Rita Marley\u2019s classic <\/span>Just One More Morning<\/span><\/i> and Yohan\u2019s rhythmic love ballads <\/span>Stay With Me <\/span><\/i>and <\/span>Goodbyes<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\nSkip Marley performed his latest song, <\/span>Vibe<\/span><\/i> before honoring his grandfather\u2019s musical legacy with a soulful, bluesy rendition of <\/span>Johnny Was<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\nAs guests from around the world enjoyed the virtual settings at the landmark Tuff Gong recording studio during the Kingston-based segment, others like Bugle ramped up the pace with his singles <\/span>Toxicity, Exercise, Rasta Party <\/span><\/i>and<\/span> Eyes Red.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\nGyptian <\/span><\/i>arrived with singles like <\/span>Beautiful Lady, Serious Time, and Hold You<\/span><\/i>. Tony Rebel followed with Love Fountain, Swing Easy and By Your Side.<\/span><\/p>\nQueen Ifrica, who brought the vibes with Heroes, Predators Paradise and the chart-topping Lioness On The Rise paved the way for Etana. The Grammy-nominee gave a tremendous performance of <\/span>Malika, I\u2019m Not Afraid <\/span><\/i>and a lovely rendition of <\/span>Three Little Birds.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\nFormerly known to the world as Lady Saw, Minister Marion Hall\u2019s poignant vocals brought everyone to attention with an acapella version of a negro-spiritual-meets-ballad opening song she wrote, <\/span>Freedom When Will You Come<\/span><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\nShowing that she is still very much the queen of stage, Hall delivered emotive and highly charged renditions of her songs, <\/span>I Had Jesus<\/span><\/i> and <\/span>If I Was Famous<\/span><\/i>, interspersed with inspired preaching, and ending her presentation with a strong message.<\/span><\/p>\nOther highlights in the livestream came from R&B superstar D\u2019Angelo, soca star,\u00a0 Kes The Band, and Casely who all performed unique versions of their favorite Bob Marley songs. Casely gave us a splendidly soulful acoustic version of <\/span>Zion Train<\/span><\/i>. Kes paid tribute to the Caribbean\u2019s greatest entertainer with a series of \u201cMarley mashups\u201d where the young singer merged his own hits with Marley classics. The inspired pairing of his newest release <\/span>Jolene<\/span><\/i> with <\/span>Waiting In Vain<\/span><\/i> is not to be missed! Lastly came a live performance from D\u2019Angelo (backed by The Roots) of <\/span>Burning and Looting.<\/span><\/i> Taken from his live set at Afropunk, the R&B crooner said he was \u201chonored\u201d that the Marley family wanted to share the performance for the livestream show.<\/span><\/p>\nOverall, the Roots 77 Concert delivered outstanding performances for a fitting tribute to the legendary Bob Marley on his birthday, as is typical.
