THE END HAS COME. Judgment seems to have come full circle for Nigerian notorious social media influencer, RAYMON HUSHPUPPI ABBAS has his \u2018out-of-the-world\u2019 dangerous lifestyle is set to receive a long period prison sentence for his role in stealing over $300million from innocent and unsuspecting victims from around the world, including Americans. Federal prosecutors have prepared a water-tight case against the suspect, as an American federal judge will rule November 7, 2022 on Hushpuppi\u2019s jail term.<\/b><\/p>\n

Prosecutors in the United States have asked a federal judge to sentence Ramon \u2018Hushpuppi\u2019 Abbas to 11 years in prison and three years of supervised release for his role in a multinational conspiracy that earned him millions of dollars between 2019 and 2020.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

American attorneys led by Khaldoun Shobaki in the U.S. Central District of California (Los Angeles) argued that Hushpuppi should also be asked to pay $1.7 million in restitution; $500,000 in fines and $100 in administrative fees, per recommendations submitted ahead of his earlier foiled sentencing on September 21.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThe government recommends that defendant be sentenced to 135 months\u2019 imprisonment, followed by a three-year term of supervised release, and that defendant be ordered to pay restitution of $1,732,841.34, a fine of $500,0000, and a mandatory special assessment of $100,\u201d the September 7 filing seen by <\/span>Naija Standard Newspaper.<\/i><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The development came more than two years after the infamous Internet fraud ringleader was arrested in Dubai in June 2020 for driving multiple schemes that targeted victims in Europe and the United States. He pleaded guilty in April 2021 after prosecutors discovered his involvement in a separate conspiracy to defraud a Qatari businessperson, who lost $810,000 in the process of trying to obtain an elusive loan to set up an international school.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In his affidavit of confession submitted to the Federal Bureau of Investigations, F.B.I, filed in the court, Hushpuppi said: \u201cI explained to F.B.I that within a period of 18 months, one of my friends and I laundered over $300million. Those are funds we obtained illegally from fraud. I am so sorry for the wrong lifestyle I led, the innocent people we duped. I regret all my actions and I have learnt my lessons\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The prosecutors argued that their sentencing recommendations were appropriate considering the gravity of Hushpuppi\u2019s crimes. The government said one of his co-conspirators Ghaleb Alaumary was sentenced to 140 years in jail for violating the same set of criminal codes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBy his own admission, during just an 18-month period the defendant conspired to launder over $300 million,\u201d the prosecutors said. \u201cWhile much of this intended loss did not ultimately materialize, the defendant’s willingness and ability to participate in large-scale money laundering highlights the seriousness of his criminal conduct.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Abbas\u2019 sentencing, the government argued, was reduced because he cooperated with detectives on criminal cases under investigation and prosecution in American courts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hushpuppi had previously tried to seek a release on humanitarian grounds, but Judge Otis D. Wright declined his pleas for failing to comply with extant court rules.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The $2.2 million in restitution and fines would add to the millions of dollars already confiscated from bank accounts and Bitcoin wallets linked to the fraudster following his arrest.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr Wright would convene a sentencing hearing in the matter on November 7, 2022 at 1:30 p.m., court filing said.<\/span><\/p>\n
