Parents of deceased reacts…

The devastated parents of Emmanuel Ogabi are at a loss to believe their son was ‘slaughtered’ to death just a few doors away from his family home. Ogabi who has a two-year-old son, was pronounced dead in the early hours of October 21 after being found collapsed on Sandy Hill Road.

A murder investigation was launched, and it is believed Ogabi was attacked by a group of men who “chased him down an alley” and stabbed him a few hours before he was found. His dad, Pastor Samuel Ogabi who is also a counsellor, and his mum, Bola Ogabi who is a primary school teacher, are full of “anguish” at their son being “left to bleed to death”.

In a statement released by both parents and the rest of his family, they said: “Sometime on the night of October 20, Emmanuel was attacked by a group of men, a few doors away from his home. He was chased down the alley, and running for his life, he screamed out for help, and no one came to his aid. He was slaughtered in the street and left to bleed to death.

“The anguish, loss and the pain we feel as a family is indescribable, and no family should ever have to feel this pain or deal with such a loss. No family should ever lose a child under such circumstances.” Emmanuel’s murder was caused by a single stab wound and detectives are appealing for dashcam footage or doorbell camera users to come forward. Police leading the investigation have said they are investigating CCTV which shows Ogabi surrounded by a group of males. His family are determined to get him justice.

The statement added: “How many more black boys and men need to be murdered on our streets before we root this evil out of society? How many more families need to be left devastated? Ogabi is dead, and never to walk these streets again, the least we can do is get him justice. We appeal to everyone out there who carries a knife with the intent to harm another human, please drop the knife!”

Detective Chief Inspector Leonard, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, said: “We are specifically appealing for anyone who was in Burridge Place or Sandy Hill Road from 11.40pm to 11.45pm on Wednesday, October 20. Analysis of CCTV footage shows Emmanuel was surrounded by a group of males and we would like to identify who they are. Similarly, please check any doorbell or dashcam footage in case you have captured something that could prove useful for our investigation. No piece of information is too small.”
