AISHA BUHARI, wife of Nigeria’s incumbent President and the nation’s First Lady has sent a warning signal to the in-coming administration of President-elect, Bola Ahmed TINUBU that it should no longer be business as usual for him or anyone in his family circle to travel Overseas in search of any medical treatment since the government of President Muhammadu Buhari has built an ultra modern State-of-the-Art- Medical Facility at a whopping cost of N21billion, having the best set of professionally trained doctors.

This comes after the inauguration of the Presidential/VIP Wing of the State House Medical Centre, which the government claimed had gulped N21 billion.  Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Buhari, on Friday, said Presidents and their family members will no longer need to seek medical treatment abroad.

This comes after the inauguration of the Presidential/VIP Wing of the State House Medical Centre, which the government claimed had gulped N21 billion.

She asserted that the President may only fly medical experts to assist their colleagues in the facility located within the precincts of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, The Nation reports.

The First Lady, while speaking at the brief inauguration ceremony, told journalists that she initiated the project six years ago, following the extensive stay of her husband abroad for medical treatment.

“The facility is in place; Presidents and their family members will no longer need to go abroad for treatment but may only fly medical experts to assist their colleagues in the country.

“I’m quite happy, feeling fulfilled. Though we are leaving, all the same, we thank God the project has come to reality.

“I have opted for it six years now. I initiated this project six years ago when my husband spent three months abroad, consecutively, 90 days, and it shouldn’t be because we have all the experts in Nigeria. We only need a good platform. We have the best medical doctors highly sought-after Overseas. We need to save the funds being taken Abroad on medical treatment to shore up the Nigerian economy.

“The hospital that is supposed to serve the First Family is serving like 35,000 people, which is quite much.

“That’s why I insisted we should have a VIP Wing within the proximity of the Presidential Villa,” she said.

On whether the medical centre will now make it unnecessary for Nigerian leaders to go abroad for treatment, she responded: “Yes. This one is for the health and wellness of the First Family. They don’t need to go abroad now. They only need to maybe fly in experts to help our people.

“So, no need for any leader to spend months and months abroad because of health care,” she said.

For the records, in August 2021, SaharaReporters reported that President Muhammadu Buhari’s incessant travels to the United Kingdom for medical treatment had reached a total of 200 days or about seven months since he assumed office in May 2015.

At the time of publishing the report, Buhari was in the UK for “a summit and scheduled medical follow-up” and was expected to be back the following week which would make it over 200 days.

Coincidentally, on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, Buhari arrived in Abuja from London, the United Kingdom, where he had been undergoing dental treatment. Buhari had joined other world leaders in London for the coronation of King Charles III and the Queen Consort, Camilla.

Although the trip was scheduled to last five days, the Presidency announced an extension of Buhari’s stay by a week to complete an ongoing dental treatment.

A statement issued by the Presidency on May 9 said Buhari would “remain in London, the United Kingdom, for an additional week, based on the advice of his dentist, who has started attending to him”.

The online news medium had reported that Bola Tinubu, who is scheduled to be sworn in as President on May 29, 2023, had been receiving medical treatment in a hospital in Paris, France.
