BY TIMINO TALEBA/SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT, NIGERIA
IN a press statement signed by General Azazi, a leader of Movement for the Emancipation of Niger Delta (MEND), with serial number MEND/FO/85Q/RSC/11 addressed to our American Editors, it exposed the alleged conspiracy of Asari Dokubo, a repentant militant man as a major brain behind the on-going ordeal and trial of Henry Okah, leader of MEND in South Africa.
MEND Position on Dokubo, Okah
Naija Standard observed that the statement unedited read: “In furtherance to our earlier statement concerning the arrest and detention of Dokubo in Cotonou, Republic of Benin, we will also want to issue other statements as it concerns our leader (Henry Okah) and lastly the 2015 Governorship election in the South South with special emphasis on Delta State.
Writes off Edwin Clarke, Ijaw Groups & Okah’s trial in SA
“Just as we had earlier communicated that even though Dokubo, along with some Niger Delta myopic and corrupt tribal assemblies like the Ijaw national congress (INC), Ijaw youth congress (IYC), Ijaw monitoring group (IMG), South-south people’s assembly (SSPA) and Elder Edwin K Clark gloated or kept silent over our authentic leader’s (Henry Okah) setup by Asari Dokubo & others and his subsequent arrest and conviction in South Africa, we will always remember the role he (Asari Dokubo) had played in the unfinished struggle before he was bought off along with several others. We will not abandon him at this time despite his disloyalty to Henry Okah who was and still remains his mentor.
‘Ambassador of Benin Republic to Nigeria, Benin Chief Police not welcomed in Nigeria’
“Sequent to the insult and humiliation melted out to Asari Dokubo by the Benin Police, we hereby declare the President of Benin Republic, The Ambassador of Benin to Nigeria, the Chief of Police Benin Republic Persona non Grata in Nigeria, go back to history and get informed by Equatorial Guinea how we did it then same we will do in Benin Republic.
Meanwhile, we have been patient enough with the Nigerian and South African Governments respectively for the unconditional release of our leader (Henry Okah), Charles Okah and every other of our members without any clear signal from both Government, we are hereby issuing a final warning to the Nigerian Government for their immediate release or else all hell will be let lose during the festive period in the entire Nation.
Gubernatorial Election in Delta State
“Concerning the Governorship election of 2015 in South South Nigeria, with focus on Delta State which is the least developed in the region due to essence looting by the state officials carried out mostly by those from Delta South and Central. Elder Edwin K Clark gloated when he received a Lexus Jeep valued at N17M and an additional N1M from Professor Sylvester Monye an adviser the president as a birthday gift, Elder Edwin K Clark has never been a “godfather” in Delta State politic and he will never be, if we should ask, how much the professor earn as an adviser?
Added: “2015 will be very fierce in Delta State and even the so called “godfather” might not survive it except he stays away or else we will take side with either Dr.Ifeanyi Okowa or the Speaker Victor Ochei.”
Dokubo Released
Asari, who appeared unperturbed about his arrest outside Nigeria, said that he was arrested and interrogated in the Republic of Benin over an allegation from Nigeria that he is a leader of Boko Haram.
Dokubo-Asari, who spoke to journalists on arrival at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Friday night, also described as lies the report in Nigerian media that President Jonathan sent a Presidential Jet to fly him into Nigeria from the Republic of Benin.
