AYO Olanrewaju is a Nigerian, 36, is a ‘businessman’, notorious in Lagos Island throwing lavish parties every Christmas period where he spends money like it would never ever go out of circulation. No one had the hindsight that the money annually showered by this man actually came from the proceeds of ‘drugs’ that he conveys ‘outside the shores of Nigeria. A popular Nigerian adage that ‘every day for the thief, one day for the owner’ is so apt to describe the criminal lifestyle of this suspect.
His Arrest
Olanrewaju was arrested promptly after intelligence reports reached Malaysian security operatives that a Nigerian from Cairo conveying drugs worth RM 300,000 (N15m) would be arriving Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). With his full description given, he was apprehended on arrival at KLIA during a special operation, and drugs worth RM300, 000 (N15, 442,771) were seen on him and confiscated.
His arrest came after police traced him at the airport. Federal Narcotics director, Commissioner Datuk Nor Rashid Ibrahim, said the arrest occurred at 7.30pm. His words: “The police arrested a 42-year-old Nigerian man who flew in from Cairo. Police checked his bags and found 1.5kg of Syabu [Methamphetamine] worth RM300, 000 (N15, 442,771), in a specially modified compartment. He has been remanded for police to conduct their thorough investigation.”
