What lessons has Nollywood taught you?
Nollywood has taught me that when you are not emotionally and psychologically ready for fame, you should not go into because you can easily get carried away by cheap popularity that you might do anything; even commit a crime to maintain that status. Reasons being that Nigerian economy cannot afford celebrities maintain that luxurious lifestyle picture befitting of our status.
Can you briefly let us into your adventure in Nigerian movie industry?
I joined the movie industry in my teenage age when I started out with talk shows on DBN and later on African Independent Television (AIT) and later I was invited to shoot PALACE, a popular soap opera then in 1996. After that, I did other soaps and movies and I did my first celluloid movie in 1997 titled “A barber’s wisdom” and I left for school at Obafemi Awolowo University ( OAU) and after I graduated I joined d Yoruba movies.
What are the high points of your movie career and when did you make your first million naira?
Like I said I did my celluloid movie in 1997 and I was paid close 2 million naira then and in d 90s unlike now we were paid well not like what it used to be.
What was the reaction of your parents when you ventured into acting?
Of course my mum opposed it totally but thanks to my mentors, who are the producers of
‘Palace.’ They promised her I was going to further my education as in go to the university and
I had 2 write that on pen and paper before she grudgingly agreed.
Were you at any time sexually abused in Nollywood?
Being sexually abused is a common thing everywhere but in the industry I have grown to be matured, if anybody’s keen on me and expresses it I cannot take it as abuse because I am a realistic person.
Is it true that many directors demand sex for roles?
Foremost as a matter of principle whenever I go for auditions, I ensured that I don’t hang around after audition. I am always very nice to my producers and directors but I am also at a distance by giving them their regard. I guess dey give me mine back as well.
Have you ever produced any movie? If yes, what was the title?
I have produced a whole of movies in English and Yoruba. The latest of my movie is ‘Cobweb’ which had 3 nomination categories in AAMA this year.
How were you raped as a teenager?
It was by my tenant I guess I was too free with him then. We were friends but nobody made me realize that as a girl you should not be so close to a boy of that age. I guessed he felt because I was big I had to have a prior-knowledge of sex but was pretending. That was how he forced himself on me (raped me) on the staircase of the house.
Have you felt embarrassed by the size of your boobs then as a teenager?
Severally, I have been embarrassed by the size of my big boobs. At times, I used to want to hide my boobs under whatsoever clothes I was wearing, but as I grew older and started to read books to appreciate myself. I learnt to carry my big boobs well with my body. I have come to see then as a precious part of me.
Do you think your big boobs add to your sexual lifestyle?
I don’t feel that my big boobs have added anything to my sexual life. May be the way men see me but as far as I am concerned; it has not changed anything.
How about the controversy earlier surrounding this present marriage that was later solved?
Concerning controversy about my marriage, I am not allowed to talk too much on it. But you should know that as celebrities, people would say all sorts about us aside the fact that as people coming together we would both have our pasts. So, I guess both our pasts are just being over exaggerated.
How did you meet your present husband?
My present husband is an activist. He is also known as ‘Mr. Fasholamania’ and I am also into activism as well. We met on that platform.
What are your aims and objectives in the movie industry?
Well my major objective for the industry is to have more professionals in the industry aside making impactful movies for my fans and viewers.
What sort of personality are you?
I am a straight-forward and blunt person. I don’t like liars, pretenders or proud people. I am a person that like to impact knowledge which is why I have continued to read. I just finished my Masters and should start my PhD soon, not in Nigeria.
If there is re-incarnation, will you still marry your present husband?
Definitely, I would marry my present husband again because he is one person I am in love with. He makes me happy, helps me in my career and most importantly, he is my best friend. Sometimes, I wish I had met him earlier but it is better late than never.
For $10m, can you act naked?
That is a very funny question. Aside the Christian background, I have got my calling in the movie industry and that is to impact on the younger generation. I am sure you know that going nude is not part of what I intend to impact on them. Besides, I am a mother and I want my kids especially my girl to see me as a role model. Those values cannot be bought with money. So, I can never do it.
What is your philosophy of life?
My philosophy to life is, you cannot sleep on more than one bed at the same time or drive two cars at the same time or wear like five clothes same time. I cherish impacting on the lives of people, rather to gather wealth.
Do you see yourself acting in Hollywood soon?
We all strive for growth in our lives. So I am hoping that very soon I would join the Hollywood train too.
How many kids do you want to have for your husband?
There is this Yoruba saying that says “You don’t count children for people. It is what God gives we would take but we are not in a hurry to have kids too.”
Finally, what is your message to your fans worldwide?
I want to thank all my fans for their love and support. I also want to tell striving, upcoming youths to be forthright, determined and prayerful. Sure, sky will be the beginning.
