VICTOR Essiet, face behind ‘Mandators’, Nigeria’s most decorated award winning reggae legend in United States has caught the attention of the ‘Western Press’ with screaming headlines through a collaboration he is presently having in a leading American studio with Nkulee, the talented daughter of the late Lucky Dube from South Africa, on a new single titled “Africa
Awake,” meant to open the consciousness of Africans and liberations of their minds to their basic rights by way of emancipation. To many music fanatics, this much awaited single album will evoke the ‘fresh memory of Lucky Dube.’
The essence of this single is to bring about and spark unity amongst reggae artists in Africa, so that the continent of Africa can have one voice, inspirational directions and vision. The album will be released simultaneously in Los Angeles, Lagos and Johannesburg.
Single Album historic
In a press statement sent to Naija Standard, it reads that “This will be the first occasion Victor Essiet and Nkulee Dube will be working together and it is sure to spark unity amongst Reggae artists in Africa. The two artistes have come together to confront issues facing Africa head-on through music. The single is to be produced by super-producer, Carl McGregor (also the producer of Jill Scott, Prince, Christina Millian, Aretha Franklin, Jada Grace Gordy (granddaughter of the Motown founder Barry Gordy), and George Clinton).
Essiet “godfather of African Reggae” makes huge impact
It is on record that Essiet of ‘The Mandators fame’ have made a big impact with great critical acclaim in the world of Reggae music and the motherland of Africa. His brand new breakthrough single ‘Freedom Train’ is now available on iTunes and leading digital outlets worldwide such as Amazon. The single ‘Freedom Train’ is currently enjoying rare reviews on New York’s Top 30 Reggae Chart. The album was produced by McGregor; the single also features the talents of up-and-coming hip-hop artist, StyLis. More singles are on the way and the full album will be released later this year.
Profile of Lucky Dube’s Daughter
Nkulee has managed to fuse ethno-soul, jazz, and ethno-ragga together as a vocalist, performer, and songwriter like no other artist. Born to the family of a music legend, Nkulee has gradually stepped into the shoes preserved for her late father, Lucky. As a guest artist and backing vocalist
of her late father’s band ‘One People’, Nkulee Dube has performed at numerous major festivals worldwide.
The past two years Nkulee has toured the globe solo with her own band, excited fans wherever she performs and will be on the road again in the summer of 2013 in support of her maiden album ‘My Way’ currently being recorded in Johannesburg.
Lucky Dube, who won numerous musical awards, is one of Africa’s greatest reggae exponents and artists who played a big part in spreading positive vibes and consciousness through his own brand of African and international reggae and world music.
