THIS world is very wicked. Yosef Tulu, a graduate of Ayer Tena Secondary School, Ethiopia in 2000 had tall dreams when he left Addis Ababa five years ago on adventure to United States. His mission was to work very hard, extra hours if need be and put an end to poverty. After a long job search, he was finally interviewed and employed in 7-Eleven, a gas station in United States as a Clerk. He was so dedicated, hardworking, dutiful and respectful; until 72 hours ago when Colton Moore, an 18 year old American visited the 7-Eleven (Convenience Store) holding his father’s AK 47 gun, shot Tulu on the chest after ‘stealing’ some goods from the store. That singular act of evil ends the aspiration and wedding plans of Tulu, a bread winner of his family in Ethiopia.
Candlelight Vigil held for Tulu
Some Africans and Americans who are friends, customers of Tulu held a candlelight vigil in his honor, yesterday, Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 6:30 pm at the 711 located at 2509 Firewheel Pkwy. Garland. Tulu was gunned down in the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 21st, as he worked as a clerk at the 711 convenience store because he was working extra hours so he could earn money to return home to Ethiopia to marry his beloved ‘wife-to-be’. Many of the attendees believe this despicable act did not go unnoticed and it’s time for Christians to take a stand against the evil that plagues our city, state and country. Prayer point was: “What Satan intended for evil, God will bring about for good.”
Garland Police Position on Murder
Garland police say Colton Moore, the teen implicated in the fatal shooting of 7-Eleven clerk Yosef Tulu, has admitted to shooting another store clerk. Police reportedly explained after a close rapport with detectives Moore admitted to shooting a clerk last week at the Homeboys gas station. Homeboys is across the street from the same 7-Eleven where police said Moore shot and killed Tulu early Tuesday morning.
Joe Harn, with the Garland Police Department, said officers were called to the Homeboys convenience store at about 11:40 p.m. Jan. 16 in response to a shooting call. Police said the clerk at the store told them he was shot twice as he walked toward his car. The clerk, who managed to get back inside the store and call for help, said he never saw who shot him and had no idea why he was targeted. The clerk is now in stable condition.
Harn said that investigators recovered evidence that supports Moore’s confession and connects him to the shooting at Homeboys gas station. Harn said Moore will be charged with aggravated assault in the case. Moore has already been charged with capital murder in connection with
Tulu’s slaying.
Confession of Killer
Moore confessed that he wanted to shoot someone with his father’s rifle and make it look like a robbery, authorities say. The revelations came to light today in the arrest warrant affidavit for 18-year-old accused, who’s charged with capital murder in the slaying of 31-year-old Tulu. Deceased was shot after handing over money and cigarettes to a masked man with a scoped rifle early Tuesday. The robber forced him to lay down behind the counter and then shot him twice, police said. Police released a surveillance video shortly after the shooting showing the robber enter the store with a scoped hunting rifle. A spent .22-caliber Remington casing was also found at the scene.
Tipsters came forward shortly afterward and told police that Moore has worn a mask similar to the one worn in the robbery, and that he had expressed a desire for the past year and a half to shoot someone (possibly even a police officer) and make the slaying look like a robbery, according to police records.
Another tipster said he asked Moore after the shooting if he was responsible, and he said yes but that he didn’t want to talk about it, the affidavit says.
A police informant also said that Moore had laid out a plan to take his father’s rifle and scope from its locked enclosure while he was sleeping and return it afterward. Also, the robber in the video appears to be left-handed, and Moore’s arrest record indicates he is left-handed.
African-Americans Holds Vigil
Over 500 African-Americans gathered in Dallas holding 150 candles yesterday praying and ended the vigil with a warning: ‘ Let us be a beckon of light in the midst of the evil we witnessed this week.’
