NIGERIANS ARE BREAKING NEW GROUNDS, almost everywhere Overseas. These Nigerians’ educational accomplishment shows that good things can surely come out of the most populous African nation in the world. JOSHUA OKYERE, a PhD student has broken new educational ground by winning the highly acclaimed Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation Scholarship award. He defeated 102 other candidates representing 13 universities from 13 countries around the world.
Joshua by his academic feat in a Canadian institution has elicited happiness and brought a huge inspiration to other international students or minorities that they can pursue their dreams and realise it.
This scholar made history as the third student from the University of Manitoba, Canada and the first in the Peace and Conflict Studies (PACS) program to have attained this rare feat.
The PhD student represents the University of Manitoba-an institution in Western Canada, in the keen scholarship contest. Joshua is one of the 15 scholars selected. Dr. Kelly Main, an acting dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies in the institution said in his reaction: “I would like to congratulate Joshua Okyere for this impressive achievement. He has joined a group of emerging scholars across Canada and he will benefit from this experience for the rest of his career. The PACS program should also be proud of how their program has helped contribute to this success.”
According to a statement from the official website of the institution, candidates who applied were assessed not only on their academic abilities but curiosity, creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, resilience; their interest in and willingness to engage with a range of different opinions and perspectives.
