Though the Musk brothers’ remarks on their past immigration status may not have wreaked havoc at the time of the interview, they are raising eyebrows in 2024. His name is Kimbal, a blood brother to Elon. He decided to come in the open to explain the circumstances surrounding their earlier illegal immigration status on arrival in the United States from Pretoria (South Africa) via Canada.
It is on record that Elon has famously been a critic of illegal immigrants since his visit to the US-Mexico border in 2023. Following his endorsement of Donald Trump, the tech billionaire has been a regular in political discussions online, notably on X, formerly Twitter, which he acquired nearly two years ago. Despite his self-proclaimed “pro-immigrant” status, Elon has called for limits to be set on who is allowed in the country. As immigration continues to be one of the hot topics on voters’ minds, a controversial clip from a 2013 interview featuring the SpaceX founder and his brother has resurfaced online.
In the decade-old interview at the Milken Institute Global Conference, the Musk brothers detailed the hardships they faced during their move from South Africa to Canada and later to the United States. The resurfaced clip, which has been a subject of controversy online, shows the sibling duo talking about the challenges of raising money for Zip2, a now-defunct company which Elon founded in 1995.
Expressing their shock over how landing a $3 investment for the company, Kimbal Musk said, “When they did fund us, they realized that we were illegal immigrants.” However, Elon quickly interjected with, “Well, I mean…,” only to be interrupted by his younger brother, who asserted that they indeed “were illegal immigrants.” To this, Elon pointed out, “I’d say it was a gray area” as the crowd burst out in laughter.

Biden pointed out that Musk, the wealthiest man in the world and CEO of SpaceX, initially entered the US as an illegal worker. This remark was made during an event in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where Biden was speaking.
“He (Musk) was supposed to be in school when he came on a student visa. He wasn’t in school. He was violating the law. He’s talking about all these ‘illegals’ coming our way,” Biden said.
Following President Biden’s recent comments, Elon Musk has fired back, claiming that the Biden administration’s “open borders” policy has allowed illegal immigrants to enter the country and harm the United States.
Musk also suggests that these immigrants are supporting the Democratic Party in US elections, despite being ineligible to vote, Musk expressed concerns about the economic impact of illegal immigration, highlighting the benefits given to undocumented immigrants, such as bank loans, mortgages, and free healthcare. He argues that these benefits contribute to the housing affordability crisis in the US.
“So NOW he cares about illegals,” Musk said in a tweet.
“MASSIVE increases in illegals in swing states during the Biden-Harris administration,” he also wrote.
According to him, it is easier for a serial killer to enter the US than a Nobel laureate.
“I was in fact allowed to work in the US. The Biden puppet is lying,” Musk wrote on X while reacting to Biden’s allegation.
“The Dems are in favor of importing voters who are beholden to them and against allowing legal immigrants who would probably vote against them. Simple matter of incentives,” he stated in a subsequent post.
