IN New York City, Mayor Zohran Mamdani has not hidden his admiration and soft-spot for Nigeria, as he has come out to publicly claim to be drawn to the music of Africa’s most populous black nation in the world into far-away Kampala, since the African continent rhythm, pulsating sound, rich arts and culture are virtues that endear him more closely to the communities of Africa.

To show his grasp of the Nigerian culture, he conversed in pidgin language freely to the African community in celebration of the Nigerian Day Parade 34th Year Anniversary with New Yorkers in the city, saying: “Nigeria too get plenty rich culture, No be lie, Nigerians wetin dey sup?’; joked ‘I don’t want any wahala.”
Mayor Mamdani said: “From the entrepreneurs whose businesses strengthen our neighborhoods, to the sounds of Afrobeats pouring out of graduation parties in Southeast Queens, and the aroma of Agege bread calling out to passersby in Brooklyn – the impact of Nigerian New Yorkers is felt across the five boroughs.
