BY GEORGE ELIJAH OTUMU/EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, TEXAS
SEUN Anikulapo Kuti, son of Afrobeat maestro, late Fela Anikulapo Kuti in a daring and unedited, exclusive interview had passed ‘a-vote-of-no-confidence’ in the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan as ‘inept’ and knocks on the candidature of General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), All Progressive Congress(APC) Presidential flag bearer as ‘no match’ to the expectation of a ‘credible, strong, reliable and formidable opposition to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of which the incumbent is the sole aspirant in the forthcoming February 14, 2015 elections.
Seun Kuti on Buhari & Jonathan
This leader of Egypt’80 band said “I believe Buhari is not the true ‘liberator’ of what Nigerians expect. He does not represent the true aspiration of the people. It is important that young people make their minds up whether they want to take steps towards progress or remain in same place. I don’t think any administration in power can be worst than this present government.
“Opposition that we have does not match my aspiration in the area of leader’s expectation. Jonathan’s administration is a government of the few. This administration have shown the most Impunity in the face of the Nigerian people in any democratic government I have seen in my life.
“Since there is no formidable opposition to PDP, Nigerians are looking at the only available option(Buahri) because the people are so disenchanted with the present administration. Unlike the ruling party, the opposition is trying to garner more support, but up to the PDP tentacles.”
On Buhari Controversial Certificate
Seun told Naija Standard that “Buhari was a General in the Nigerian Army. I don’t think the certificate matters too much. If somebody is able to rise to the rank of a General in the Army and we are saying he does not even have a School leaving certificate; it is a shame to our military, not Buhari. Also, Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) is an idiotic institution for registering people with no School leaving certificate.
On Boko Haram
Seun said “I don’t think Buhari is behind Boko Haram attacks in the country. Well, we still have hope-most educated Nigerians would ever witness in terms of intelligence, and expectation would be in 2015-2019 elections because this is a wake-up call for Nigerian masses to unite and form a positive drive.
Describes how Nigerians Politicians see Power & Youths
For Seun, he said “Political situation in the country is very stressful situation where politicians go into politics not because they want to serve the people but to abuse power. They go into politics to be powerful not to be subservient to the people.
“Masses need a pro-people movement that will put the people first in politics, inspire the minds of the young people-set out of ‘greedy-desires’ by thinking what the youths can do to help build the nation. Nigeria has never been united irrespective of the government in power-but superficial.
On Fuel Subsidy
He told Naija Standard exclusively that “Millions of fortunes made overnight from fuel subsidy, alarming rate of subsidy increment in this administration is very terrifying. I don’t think this government is honest in policy formulation. The eyes of the people of Nigeria has opened. There is nothing positive in this administration, but hidden agendas. They only throw crumbs at the people with no-human face policies.”
Influence of music on Polity
Sounding philosophical, Seun said “Positive music can help influence the society more positively. I believe that and still thinking aloud to myself. I don’t know what Fela would have said if he had witnessed this administration in this present democracy.”
