BY GEORGE ELIJAH OTUMU/EDITOR-IN-CHIEF/TEXAS UBA Onwudiwe, Nigerian born Canadian Face of Nollywood is on the part of making history come September 14, 2013, as she lights up Warner Theatre in Washington DC, United States in company of 2Face Idibia from Nigeria and other top Nigerian musicians/actors in this fourth year edition of Nollywood and African Film Festival (NAFCA), the biggest African film celebration in United States; otherwise called ‘African Oscar Awards’.
Onwudiwe who emerged tops on ‘African Female Artist in Diaspora’ in this year’s ceremony will be showcasing her prowess, passion and relevance in glitz, glamor and pageantry; while other renowned African musicians like 2Face Idibia, Flavor and 2Face Idibia to mention but a few.

In a press statement sent to Naija Standard by NAFCA Secretariat, Dr. Victor Olatoye, President/CEO of this noble project running in its fourth year explained that “In NAFCA Special Honors established in 2011 by the Nollywood & African Film Critics’ Awards to grace the lives and achievements of African luminaries. These honorary awards are awarded to recognize contributions over the whole of a career, rather than or in addition to single contributions of an individual. The NAFCA Special Honors also recognize outstanding community leaders whose
professional careers have been marked by extraordinary personal and professional accomplishments. The NAFCA Special Honors were presented for the first time in 2011 to President Nelson Mandela. Recipients of this award in subsequent years include President Yahya Jammeh of The Gambia.
“Presentations of The NAFCA Special Honors are made yearly during the second weekend in September at the Nollywood & African Film Critics’ Awards also known as the African Oscars. The award categories include: • LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS • IMAGE AWARDS • PATRIOT AWARDS. For this year’s Lifetime Awards, the recipients include HE Hon. President Jonathan E. Goodluck (Federal Republic of Nigeria), HE Hon. President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (Republic of Liberia). Image Award Nominees HE Hon. First Lady Dr. Patience Goodluck (Federal Republic of Nigeria), Amobi Okoye – Humanitarian (USA), Curtis Jackson – Humanitarian (USA); Hon. Speaker Tambuwal-Humanitarian (Federal Republic of Nigeria), while Special NAFCA Patriot Awards feature names as: Hon. Engr. Noah Dallaji – Humanitarian (Nigeria), Hon. Kabiru Nuhu Poloma – Humanitarian Nollywood Friendly (Nigeria) and Hon. Prince Tom Ateke – Humanitarian/Nollywood Friendly (Nigeria).”
Olatoye stated that “This Year’s NAFCA is going to revolutionize the entertainment, showbiz and movie industry in Africa. It is our intention and mission to ensuring that we use this global media convergence to celebrate Africa positively to the world.
