For travelers, holiday-makers, vacation enthusiasts and tourists, the end may have come a full circle for any Airbnb and Short-let that were in prior practice at the highbrow Banana Island Housing Estate, Lagos State, due to an alarming crime rate caused by the influx of criminals into the once quiet, serene and peaceful environment.

The activities of the dangerous criminals have brought fear, anxiety, panic; unsafe habitation to the residents whose privacy, mutual trust and lifestyles are being violated daily.
To arrest the situation, the management of Banana Island met, discussed and agreed that effective Monday, February 9, 2026, operation of Airbnb, Short-let has been prohibited.
In an official statement authored by the Executive Committee of the Estate, it emphasized that the action taken arose from loss of tranquility, mutual trust break and privacy invasion.

It reads: “Following the recent security breach and the violation of our long-standing peaceful co-existence as a community, the Executive Committee has resolved to bring a complete end to the operations of Airbnb and Short-let activities across the entire Banana Island Estate Community, covering both residential and commercial properties.
“Our Banana Island is more than an address. It is a community defined by tranquility, mutual trust and privacy with a strong sense of belonging.
