END of the Road seems to have come for Nigeria’s former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major-General Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd.) whose distinguished military career that terminated in the last administration of ex-president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan seems to have been tainted by graft relating to the Arms-for -Cash scandal for which several former military and political chiefs are currently being investigated.
Sources in Nigeria’s Department of State Security Service (DSS) confided in this correspondent that unarguable intelligence report in the desk of DSS fully showed that Ihejirika may not be saint as his supposed sterling military career was built on fraud.
It was gathered that this once-agile looking former COAS Major-General Azubuike Ihejirika (rtd.), has been arrested by operatives of DSS), following many hours surveillance in his house at the nation’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Ihejirika was picked up late last night at his mega residence in Maitama, Abuja, in connection with the arms purchase scandal for which the immediate past National Security Adviser (NSA) retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki is also being grilled. He has promised to fully cooperate with DSS throughout the investigation.
Sadly, security sources confirmed that over N400 million in cash and 12 cars were among property recovered from Ihejirika’s residence by DSS operatives.
These cars include 2 Bentleys; 3 Range Rovers; 2 Rolls Royce; 1 SLR; and 1 G-Wagon.
