DO you drive Grand Cherokee 1993-2004 model? Then, you need to urgently read the hazards attached to this vehicles made by Chrysler auto manufacturers. The dangers inherent to this vehicle are higher than the benefits. Crack investigation by our reporter confirmed that because the fuel tank is low at the back, any least collision by any other vehicle to these Grand Cherokees from the rear would certainly lead to outburst of fire.
It is said that death by fire is the most excruciating way to die. In an electronic mail received by Naija Standard editors, a leading environmental pressure group, Change.org sent us a painful story which reflected the dangers attached to driving this brand of vehicles.
Change.org story
“Last October, I watched, horrified, as a single mom and a teenage boy died this way, all because
their Jeep Grand Cherokee caught fire. Jeep knows the fuel tank on Grand Cherokees is in the “crush zone,” which means the car is likely to catch on fire in an accident. So why are these cars still on the road?
Chrysler knows this problem
“I found out later that Jeep is well aware of this problem in 1993-2004 Grand Cherokees. Only 27 people ever died in Ford Pinto fires, but the Jeep Grand Cherokee number is 287 and rising.
Petition sent already
“I started a petition on Change.org calling on the Department of Transportation and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to issue a recall on all 1993-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees and get these dangerous cars off the road.
“Last fall I was out for a drive with my dad when we hit a sudden traffic jam. A tractor trailer couldn’t stop in time, so it hit a bunch of cars from behind. We spun into a guardrail, but we were okay. We got out of the car to see that another family had survived, but their car, a Jeep Grand Cherokee, was on fire.
“My dad tried to help them out of the car, but he was only able to save one of the teenage boys.
The other boy and the mom were trapped, and burned to death. It was the most awful thing I have ever seen.
After the accident, I spent months grieving. I couldn’t get that family out of my head. It was painful watching this mother and teenager burn to death, but watching her 18-year-old son struggling to escape the raging inferno. Watching him cry, “Mom, Mom.” I’m a single mom with two teenaged boys, too, so that really hit home. When that boy was crying for his mother, he sounded like my boys.
Your car could be a victim
Naija Standard gathered that the scariest part is this doesn’t just affect people who drive Jeeps — if you rear-end a Jeep Grand Cherokee in a collision, your car could catch on fire, too. We would not want more people to die because of a known problem with Jeep Grand Cherokees.
Facts about this Jeep
Jeep is owned by Chrysler, which is one of the companies that got a taxpayer bailout. Regular people helped keep that company afloat, and now regular people are losing their lives so that company can make more money. We think it’s despicable.
True, Naija Standard have seen lots of Change.org petitions have success become landmark history. Petition on this danger inherent with Grand Cherokee jeep had been sent to Department of Transportation and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration which are supposed to keep Americans safe. To effect this positive change, people should sign the petition by visiting Change.org where they’ll do the right thing and protect our safety over Chrysler’s bottom line.
Recent statistics showed that so far 287 people have been killed by this vehicle.
