SHE was a star in the Nigerian legal community, a former Treasurer of the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Abuja branch. Late Princess Nwamaka Mediatrix Chigbo was an honest, god-fearing woman whose virtues are honesty, hardwork and peace always. There was hardly anyone in her lifetime whom she met she did not leave smiles on their faces. As such, it shook the foundation of Africa’s most populous black nation in the world on that black day when the news hit that this harmless woman was kidnapped by terrorists and eventually murdered in cold blood. Unknown to the blood-thirsty bandits, Princess Nwamaka emerged victorious afterwards, as death could no longer have dominion on her, as she had joined other saints of God in Heaven where death no longer have a hold on her.
During her burial, the wind hardly blew, rain refused to fall, being symbolism of the grief, pain and agony the family, friends and invited guests had to witness.
Without a shred of doubt, the grief, tears was palpable and could be cut with a ‘knife’, as eyes were swollen, anger were visible on peoples’ faces wanting to know when justice would be seen to have been done after the killers of Princess Nwamaka must have been arrested, prosecuted and nailed behind bars, instead of allowing the assassins to continue to walk the streets freely, as if Nigeria is a banana republic where lawlessness reign supreme.

The kidnappers in the Federal Capital Territory in January 2026 were only able to attack her body but could not kill her soul because she was a saint.
Her abduction and subsequent killing sparked widespread grief, anger and calls for justice with family members, civil society groups and professional associations urging the authorities to thoroughly investigate the case and hold those responsible to account.
The burial ceremonies began with the lying-in-state and paying of final respects to the departed legal icon. Family members, friends, well-wishers, religious bodies and union representatives also gathered in hushed successions, offering prayers for the peaceful repose of her soul.
The cortege later proceeded to Our Lady of Seven Sorrows Catholic Church, Abidi, Umuoji, where her body arrived ahead of the funeral Mass for a memorial service steeped in faith and remembrance.
During the funeral mass, attended by nine Reverend Fathers from different dioceses across the country, the clerics spoke of hope and eternal life, while tributes from loved ones painted a portrait of a woman known for her deep faith, unwavering professionalism and boundless compassion.
The speakers described Princess Chigbo as a devout Catholic, a dedicated lawyer and a loving, compassionate woman, whose life was defined by service to both God and her fellow human beings.
Many remembered her warmth, devotion to justice and her generous spirit, honoring a legacy that extended far beyond her professional achievements.
After the Mass, her remains were returned to the family compound, where she was finally committed to mother earth. As the last rites were performed and earth covered her casket, tears and quiet lamentations marked the end of a deeply and emotional day with the mourners calling for justice for a lawyer whose life resonated deeply with many Nigerians whose lives she touched during her remarkable life on earth.
