“WHEN the history of our times is written, will we be remembered as the generation that turned our backs in a moment of global crisis or will it be recorded that we did the right thing?” This was the opening speech of George Elijah Otumu, Editor-In-Chief and CEO of Naija Standard Newspaper Inc USA, a foremost Nigeria’s international newswire, author when called to make his speech at the historic unveiling of his maiden book titled ‘Nigeria’s 2015 Elections: Fearless Journalism, Reporters’ Survival, Democracy and Nigerian Journalism in USA.’ This drew a loud applause from Nigerians, African-Americans already seated in the crowd.
Otumu’s speech at this epoch-making celebration of the virtues of Nigeria on March 29, 2014 (Saturday) was punctured with applause intermittently as he made philosophical speeches saying “Yes you can, we can, I can: together we can re-brand Nigeria in our various human endeavors through hardwork, diligence, consistency, focus and honesty. We cannot just leave the government alone to shoulder the responsibilities of Nigeria; rather every effort we put in to give Nigeria a good name in our career-lifestyle will certainly go a long way in celebrating the greatness of our dear country.”
Our multiple, award winning Editor-In-Chief brought his speech to a close when he delved on the historic book adventure: “After several sleepless nights, and deep meditation that lasts for 12 months, you are reading a historic book with a holistic view on ‘best election process’ attainment in Nigeria. This is a historic book that would be a ‘collectors’ item’ and a guide to having a stable electioneering process in Nigeria.”
After the program was declared open immediately the national anthem of United States of American and Nigeria was rendered, Pastor O.J Kuye, Senior pastor, Redeemed Christian Church of God, House on the Rock, Texas. Ambassador Geoffrey Telenaibe, Consul General of Federal Republic of Nigeria to Atlanta, Chairman of the occasion concurred with Otumu on the greatness of Nigeria and the possibility of witnessing a most-credible election in Nigeria when he noted that “I can assure you that by 2015, Nigeria will witness the most credible, most celebrated and most freest and fairest election ever in our history. President Goodluck Jonathan has done so much in the area of infrastructural development, job creation, stabilizing the economy and progressing Nigeria from low-income country into middle income nation, among other achievements. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under Professor Attahiru Jega, a disciplined electoral umpire, not running after wealth or riches; and would not do anything to rubbish his hard-earned credibility built over the years, assured on several occasions that Nigeria will see the best election come 2015.”

There were other various speakers in this historic ceremony. Highpoint of this ceremony was when the Consul General was honored with ‘Nigeria’s Best Media-Friendly Diplomat in the Diasporas 2013-2014’, while Miss Shadel, Regional Director for a highbrow record label in Los Angeles represented Victor Essiet (Mandators) who was crowned ‘Nigeria’s Reggae Icon in the Diasporas 2013-2014.’
Interestingly, the hundreds of books at this ceremony were all sold out. God bless Nigeria.
