EVERGREEN history was made on behalf of Nigeria at the just ended summit titled: ‘Nigeria’s Electioneering Process…Towards Sustainable Peace’ which held Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the prestigious Sheraton Arlington Hotel, Arlington, Texas, United States. The epoch-making ceremony created a forum for African communities in the Diaspora, with a unanimous resolution for agenda setting for Nigeria’s newly elected in-coming President, General Muhammadu Buhari (Retired).
‘Nigeria on Pathway to Greatness’-Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu
Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, who doubles as Chairman of Daily Sun and Telegraph newspapers in Nigeria explained to Naija Standard earlier that he believes Nigeria is on the right track of progress and development with Buhari at the helm of affairs, “I have always known and believe that with the election of Buhari in Nigeria’s saddle of power from May 29, 2015, I am a strong believe that Nigeria is on the pathway to greatness. Don’t forget that he had a track record of integrity, discipline, vision during his earlier leadership of the country as then military Head-of-State. Just watch, we are all confident that Nigeria’s economy will bounce back into positive, global reckoning.”
‘Nigeria can enjoy Peace, Security & Stable Electricity Supply’–Dr. Chris Egede, Keynote Speaker
For Chris Egede, a foremost celebrated Nigeria’s Dental doctor in North America, Keynote speaker at the event, he touched on almost every sectors of Nigeria, with a concluding caveat that : “Yes, Nigerian can be great, respected and highly respected in the eyes of international community.”
Egede said “Nigeria is a great nation by all standards. It is high-time the issues of enduring peace in the country for Nigerians have to be guaranteed. The people don’t need violence. It is only in an environment of peace and tranquility, progress can be found. On security, new leadership of Buhari has to ensure that more votes is set-aside to acquire sophisticated weapons to combat any threat of terrorism. All holes should be blocked to avert any form of kick-back, so as to put an end to corruption. I know from the researches I have carried out, confirms that Nigeria can enjoy huge Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from international entrepreneurs and businessmen that will create million of jobs for Nigerians and help build our economy. Prosecutable powers should be independently handed out to institutional agencies combating financial crimes in Nigeria without any interference from any quarter. All hands have to be on deck to achieve this feat.”
Nigerians in Diaspora, African Communities Set Agenda for Buhari, Nigeria’s In-coming President
Interestingly, African communities from Nigeria, Uganda, South Africa, Ghana among other nationalities agreed that the time has come for the African continent to move forward. In a unanimous, peaceful solidarity, they all gave agenda setting to Buhari when they carried various placards which read: “WE WANT PEACE TO REIGN SUPREME IN NIGERIA/AFRICA, NIGERIA: ONE NATION-ONE PEOPLE, NIGERIANS WANT CONSTANT ELECTRICITY SUPPLY; NIGERIANS & AFRICANS SAY NO TO CORRUPTION, DEMOCRACY HAS COME TO STAY IN NIGERIA, NIGERIANS/AFRICANS HATE TERRORISM AND NIGERIA NEEDS FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT THROUGH PRIVATE-PUBLIC PARTICIPATION.”
‘Nigeria, like Uganda needs a Leader that can free the nation from Corruption’–Eva, an Ugandan Nurse
For Eva Gamweyune, an Ugandan Nurse in United States, she believes Nigeria and Uganda share similar traits. Her words: “Nigeria and Uganda share very similar issues and traits. It is very important that leaders in Africa face the issue of corruption and deal with it squarely. They must be accountable to the people their leading and lead with all honesty. We need African leaders that can come to equity with clean hands.”
‘Truly, Nigeria needs Spiritual Re-birth’-Reverend Sunday Omotosho, Pastor, RCCG, Texas
Speaking at the ceremony, Reverend Sunday Omotosho, Pastor, Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Victory House, Abilene, Texas, stated: “Leaders in Nigeria needs spiritual re-birth at this time in the nation’s history. Since spiritual controls the physical, Nigerian leaders must shun all forms of occultism, embraced God in truth, steer-clear off corruption, and give quality leadership to the people under them. They should not forget that in everything they are doing, God is watching them. And on the last day, they will give account of their stewardship on earth.”
‘Positive Revolutionary Change is Possible in Nigeria-Elizabeth Owonikoko
For Elizabeth Owonikoko, a Doctorate student at Walden University, she further explained that only few, intelligent thinkers with passion for their countries make positive changes in the lives of the people. Her words: “I am a firm believer in positive revolution by few think-tanks, intelligent geniuses who are always ready to think outside the box and effect broader and victorious pathway for the citizenry. It does not take large number of people to make a huge difference and impact on the entire populace. Look at the person of Martin Luther King Jnr, who stood out from the crowd, make a revolutionary change and had his name written in the evergreen Hall of Fame for posterity. High time, Nigerians and Africans stop the habit of if you cannot beat them, join them. We must stand out in this generation as the greatest bastion of inspiration, hope and freedom for the people. Thank you for putting this summit on Nigeria together”.
‘We fully believe in New Nigeria’-Nigeria-American Press Association (NAPA)
The Board of Directors and Editors of Nigeria-American Press Association, (NAPA) emphasized on their firm belief in Nigeria. NAPA communique reads: “Looking closely at Nigeria, NAPA believes and hold the opinion that a New Nigeria is possible, where the economy is buoyant, Naira value appreciates in Foreign Exchange market, people are empowered through millions of job creation in a serene environment. When all these index are put together collectively, we see the emergence of United States of Africa in nearest future.”
‘We can have steady, Foreign Direct Investment in Nigeria’–MANAGEMENT, NSN
On behalf of Editorial Board of Naija Standard, NSN, our hard-working, multiple, award-wining Editor-in-Chief strongly advocates for higher FDI to Nigeria. He said: “It is true that FDI bridges the gap between the poor and the rich nations by promoting economic growth and development; it is time that we take a good look at the functional relationship that exist between Gross Domestic Product (GDP), wage rate and interest rate. When wage rate increases in Nigeria, it will have a positive impact on the FDI in-flow. Nigerian leaders must ensure consistencies in economic policies and transparency in governance to build confidence in the minds of intended-foreign investors in the country.”
