Senegalese President Macky Sall presided over the 9th edition of the Dakar International Forum on Peace and Security. This year forum came at a time when several countries in the sub-region are facing coups d’état, President Sall called for arms to be set aside in favor of dialogue.
It is therefore time to silence the weapons and give priority to dialogue to settle our differences, “It is also through dialogue that we overcome partisan divisions to build the coalitions necessary for the stability of national institutions,” declared President Macky Sall.
“The theme of this 9th edition also reminds us of our share of responsibility in the security challenges and institutional instability that trouble the continent. In addition to their human and material cost, armed conflicts undermine our efforts to achieve economic and social development”, added the Head of State.
On the sidelines of the opening ceremony, members of the Senegalese diplomatic corps of all categories praised the laudable diplomatic and consular accomplishments of the President Macky Sall, and his positive initiative on the African and international stage.
In a vote of thanks read out by Cheikh Niang, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of Senegal to the United Nations in New York, the Senegalese diplomat praised the high priority given by Mr. President to consolidate the bonds of friendship, of cooperation and co-development with friendly and fraternal border countries, which has led, among other achievements, to the construction of the Sénégambie bridge at Farafenni, the ongoing construction of the Rosso bridge, as well as the joint exploitation by Senegal and Mauritania of the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim gas field.
The diplomats also expressed their satisfaction with the president’s leading role in the increased dynamism of sub-regional organizations such as UEMOA, OMVS, OMVG and ECOWAS, in perfect harmony with his peers, for a peaceful, united and prosperous sub-regional space.
Macky Sall was praised for his numerous peace initiatives in Africa and beyond including his historic visit to Sochi, in the Russian Federation, which was also intended to contribute to the resolution of the long-standing war between Ukraine and Russia.
