with his contract with America Interscope Records to promote his career. This was
after his debut album ‘Send Down the Rain’ on Tabansi label hit the jackpot. Majek
with his Pangolo brand of Music was a toast of the music fans and the radio stations.
But his fortunes began to wane when he crossed the Atlantic. Majek was reportedly
hooked on drugs and this ate into his little fortunes. He lost the inspiration to
make music while his album then became a wash-off. It failed to measure up to ‘Send
Down The Rain’ and ‘Prisoner of Conscience’.

In an exclusive interview with Naija Standard, Tee Mac Omatshola Iseli, ertswhile
President of Performing Musicians Employers’ Association of Nigeria (PMAN) stated
that ” Majek is a personal friend. I knew him when he was unknown and when he
became a star. It is sad that he not advised on what drugs, alcohol and women can do
to a career if there is no moderation. Spiritual help may be the solution but it
depends on how far the damage on his immune system has gone. Healthy food and regular
exercise would do wonders buth that costs money. One has to rally round Majek and support
him financially before it is too late. I personally wish him all the best, he is a great
artist.”
Tunde & Wunmi Obe on Majek
Nigeria’s Legendary Showbiz Couple of the Year, T.W.O. said ” We met Majek Fashek for the first time one on
one when he was a guest on our interview programme ‘Zoom Time’..Though we’s d seen and met him several
times in the past. This was the first opportunity we had of chatting with him one-on-one. He had made a very
good interview material. This was in 1998, just before our debut album, when T.W.O was released. He had
come to Nigeria for a concert from his then Ameican base. We remember thinking to ourselves: this is a REAL
star. He looked so good in his magician’s top hat that was collapseable (that was his signature then), and his
leather jacket/pants….with the big bikers boots. We silently prayed to be as musically successful as he was
one day…But not anymore. Today, he cuts such a pitiable sight. As such as i pity his current condition, i cannot
help but feel that he’s the chief architect of his own downfall. Many people have tried to intervene to help him
find his feet again, but it has not worked. We will continue to wish him well. We will continue to pray for him.
There is nothing God cannot do.”

I know all too well about how addicting and lehatl alcohol is. My mother was an Alcoholic and it took her life when she was 66 year old. She went through re-hab 2X, did pretty good for a few years at a time but her 3rd (and last) relapse, we knew that she gave up and could not beat this demon. It was terrible having to watch my beautiful, talented, Mother die a slow, painful death. I even got her to try marijuana at one point to see if it may stop her from drinking as I know that marijuana NEVER killed anyone.
