AFRICA’S most populous nation-Nigeria seems to be at war against herself, as the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, United Kingdom leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, director of Radio Biafra and Biafra Television few days ago in Lagos has led to tension, massive arrests, lawlessness, protests and unending agitation by Biafran members across South East Nigeria.

Since Nnamdi’s arrest by Nigeria’s secret police, Department of State Service, DSS, after his arrival from his base in United Kingdom, UK, peace has taken flight in most parts of South East Nigeria with most shops closed for business operations.

This correspondent gathered that Kanu was flown in ‘handcuff’, guarded by fierce-looking, stern DSS operatives to Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. He was hurriedly brought before an Abuja Municipal Council Magistrate court for offense bothering on Felony, Sedition and ‘Overthrow of Nigerian Government’, after which the judge granted him bail in the sum of N2million, while he should provide two other sureties that will make available the sum of N2million each and verifiable landed properties. He was ordered locked in a cell while bail condition was handed-out to him.

Pronto, DSS locked him up in an underground cell with where terrorists and hardened criminals have made abode. In the dingy and stinky cell, Kanu is said to be tortured, harassed and attacked by the angry-looking terrorists allegedly under the order instruction of DSS. For fear that he may be killed or poisoned during regular meals, IPOB embattled leader is now on hunger strike to protest his arrest and detention with terrorists.

This similar view was corroborated by IPOB’s lawyer, Egechukwu Obetta. He laments: “Kanu, after arrest by DSS, was put in same cell with terrorists despite his life threatening health challenges. He is selective to delicacies. He has vowed never to eat any food served by Federal Government of Nigeria ‘for fear of food poisoning’. We fear for his safety.”

To drum up foreign support for his ‘unconditional release’, Ucheana Ukuegu, Head Director for IPOB said “All igbo sons and daughters who are Biafrans resident in Europe should converge in Madrid, Spain on Monday, October 26, 2015 for a live protest to tell the international community we are not joking. This is another quick way we can press for his release from Overseas. Any son and daughter of Biafra who refused to identify with this cause shall be treated as infidels: enemies of our struggle to freedom. We have put up adequate arrangement in place to pay the hospital bills of every Biafran man and woman wounded in these protests.”

Mazi Uchemofor, Deputy Director, IPOB and a top presenter on Radio Biafra regretted that Nigeria’s greatest blunder was to have arrested their leader. His words: “Zoo, that republic called Nigeria made the biggest mistake in life to have arrested our leader Kanu. We are fighting, we are at war with the Zoo. They will not have peace until Kanu is released. This demonstration is total, No going back at all.”

Barely few hours ago, phone calls came in into the live studio of Biafra Radio in UK from Biafran coordinators in Italy, Sweden, Netherlands, Austria, Singapore, China, South Africa and Nigeria where knocks came down heavily on administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, whom they all believe “is an enemy of Biafra Republic establishment.”

Protesters storm Port Harcourt, Delta agitators arrested, detained for ‘Breach of Peace’

Few hours ago in Nigeria, especially in South East states like Delta, Port-Harcourt in Delta and Anambra, there were confusion, pandemonium as a result of the protests embarked upon by these Biafran members. Major cities in these states experienced huge car traffic as few motorists moved at snail speed.

In Delta, the women protesters were roundly arrested on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, humiliated, phones-seized, pictures taken and detained in Delta State Police Command. They were only granted bail after several hours in police cells. Uduoma Chineye, Delta state coordinator for IPOB explained in tears their ordeal. Her story: “We were on a peaceful protest, agitating for the release of our leader, Nnamdi Kanu. We arrived at the Government House of Delta State so we may present to the governor our position and demand, so he may help us pass same to Buhari. Unfortunately, tears gas was fired and gun shot up in the air. We heard some police officers attached to the government house saying ‘arrest them’. We were roundly arrested, taken to Delta State Police Command to meet the Commissioner of Police, CP. The CP accused us of plans to break-up Nigeria. They asked of our leaders, we said we have no leader, our only leader Kanu had been arrested by DSS.

“Our cellphones, money were collected from us. Our pictures were taken and the CP told us that we were lucky as women. He said if we were men, they would have tortured us and charge us to court. We were locked up in various cells for hours, later brought out of the cells and placed on bail that we paid for with our money.”
